US President Donald Trump blamed immigration for the wave of unrest sweeping France, after weeks of protests over rising living costs and deteriorating public services escalated into widespread violence across several major cities.
“Close your Borders and take control, before it is too late!” — Trump said in a post on his Truth Social platform.
France was reeling on Oct. 18 from widespread damage during protests the day before that left a historic town hall torched and led to 1,800 arrests, piling pressure on President Emmanuel Macron six months before elections to replace him.

Securitize, the leading platform for tokenized assets, recently announced the upcoming launch of Securitize Stocks, bringing some of the world's most widely held U.S. equities onchain for eligible investors in the United States, European Union and other permitted jurisdictions worldwide. 🌎
The planned connectivity would create another pathway for tokenized U.S. equities to trade through infrastructure being developed by one of the world's leading exchange operators.
"Securitize has been a leader in bringing institutional assets onchain, and this launch represents an important next step for tokenized capital markets, requiring the issuance, collateral and liquidity that robust markets need," — said Noel Kimmel, President, Ripple Prime.
"As traditional and digital infrastructure converge, Ripple Prime is proud to work with partners driving how these assets become part of a broader institutional trading ecosystem."🤝
The announcement was officially published on October 8, 2026.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has signed a decree ordering digital platforms, including social media and streaming sites, to shield children and teenagers from violent, sexual and other harmful content.
Digital platforms will have one month to come into compliance with the decree. Sheinbaum added that if companies failed to follow the decree, the government would back a bill to penalize the platform.

MapQuest added a new feature to its mobile app that allows users to turn on a “surveillance layer” to find known license plate readers in their route.
“The Roads Have Eyes!,” — MapQuest said announcing the new feature.
“Turn on the Surveillance Layer in Map Options to see known license plate readers from Flock Safety, Motorola Solutions (Vigilant), Genetec, Axis Communications, Axon, Leonardo (ELSAG), Neology, Rekor, PlateSmart, Ubicquia, Verkada, and other outdoor surveillance cameras,” — the post read.
Earlier this month, progressive lawmakers introduced legislation to ban federal agencies from using automatic license plate readers (ALPRs). The Ban Flock Act would stop federal agencies from using ALPR and pause federal grant funding to state and local governments with ALPR contracts.
The legislation would also allow Americans to sue the federal government for the use of ALPRs.

Singapore Gulf Bank (SGB), a Bahrain-regulated digital bank backed by Singapore’s Whampoa Group and Bahrain’s sovereign wealth fund Mumtalakat, has enabled retail customers to convert bidirectionally between U.S. dollars and the stablecoins USDT or USDC directly inside its mobile banking app.
The service supports two-way conversion between USD and USDT or USDC, is available 24 hours a day from Monday to Friday, and allows deposits and withdrawals to external wallets. The bank’s messaging emphasizes the removal of the traditional “runaround” between a bank account and an exchange.
SGB announced the feature on its official X account on October 14, 2026.

Representatives for Anthropic have quietly pitched Capitol Hill lawmakers on a draft bill to regulate frontier AI safety and security.
“This bill represents the proposals outlined in Anthropic’s Advanced AI Framework, which we have been advocating for with federal and state lawmakers since June,” — an Anthropic spokesperson said. “These are sensible policies we believe Congress should act on.”
The language mirrors that found in California’s AI laws including SB 53, which was signed into law last year.

Japanese scientists are launching the unmanned Martian Moons eXploration (MMX) probe on an H3 rocket from Tanegashima to retrieve samples from Phobos. The spacecraft reaches Mars next August, will orbit Phobos, deploy the IDEFIX rover, land and collect 10 grams, then return.
Scientists hope the samples will resolve whether the moons formed by a giant impact or are captured asteroids. The findings could show how water and organics reached rocky planets and help prepare for crewed Mars exploration.

Researchers from MIT and Northeastern University studied 80 adults using ultra-high-field 7-Tesla fMRI to examine the superior colliculus, a small midbrain structure involved in sensory processing. Participants either viewed images or received gentle mechanical pressure on their left thumbs, allowing scientists to compare brain activity before and during sensory stimulation.
The brain doesn’t just react — it predicts. Published in Nature Neuroscience, the study found that visual stimuli triggered stronger activity in the superior colliculus’s superficial layers, while touch activated deeper layers. Remarkably, the same distinct patterns appeared before the stimuli arrived, when participants were anticipating what they would see or feel.
The findings support the theory of predictive processing: the brain actively prepares for incoming sensory information rather than passively waiting for it. Understanding this mechanism could help scientists better explain how the brain anticipates events and coordinates rapid responses to the world around us.

A batch of bug fixes is set to go live on the XRP Ledger on Friday, and some of them patch the lending system Ripple has pitched to banks and payment companies since June — a system that hasn’t been switched on yet and is still 10 votes short of approval.
Validators are the independent servers that agree on which transactions count. A change to the network’s rules needs backing from more than 80% of the 35 validators the network trusts by default, which works out to 29, and that backing has to hold for two straight weeks.

Deutsche Telekom, Orange, Telefónica and Vodafone are exploring a joint bid for EU satellite spectrum to offer direct-to-smartphone connectivity. The companies would build ground infrastructure and partner with an existing satellite operator rather than launch their own satellites.
The initiative aims to reduce Europe’s dependence on U.S. satellite providers.

Mesh, the leading crypto payments network, announced a strategic partnership with Visa to make crypto and stablecoin balances spendable across Visa's global acceptance network.
The first-of-its-kind collaboration combines Visa's global acceptance network with Mesh's orchestration infrastructure, enabling consumers to pay in-store and online directly from the balances they already hold in their wallet apps.
Visa's network spans upwards of 175 million merchant locations across more than 200 countries and territories, with $14.2 trillion in payments volume in fiscal 2025. This partnership is designed to make that footprint reachable directly from a crypto or stablecoin balance.
"Consumers increasingly expect to use their money however and wherever they choose," — said Rubail Birwadker, Global Head of Growth at Visa.
"Working with Mesh helps expand how digital asset balances can connect to the trusted payment experiences consumers and merchants rely on every day."
