💸 Binance opens crypto withdrawals in phases starting with bitcoin following $6.3 billion hack

Binance is letting users access their coins days after the massive $6.3 billion hack, with BTC payouts among the first services to be restored.

❗️The exchange began the phased restart on Sunday, with the first withdrawal window running from 06:00 to 09:00 UTC.

“Binance is preparing to resume phase one of withdrawals on 2026-11-01 between 06:00 and 09:00 (UTC). Restoring access to user funds is a priority, and we are taking a controlled approach to do so safely. We will continue to monitor closely as services return in phases,” — a Binance spokesperson said.

Alongside BTC, Binance reopened withdrawals for ETH, USDT, USDC, BNB, and XRP with the most requested networks prioritized. Additional phases will follow, but only after each blockchain clears further security and stability checks.

🇰🇵 The FBI is releasing information advising the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (North Korea) was responsible for the theft of more than $6 billion USD in virtual assets from cryptocurrency exchange Binance. The FBI refers to this specific North Korean malicious cyber activity as "TraderTraitor."

👀 Elon Musk says Neuralink is ready to cure blindness

Elon Musk’s Neuralink has been pushing advancements in the BCI space, with patients now able to play World of Warcraft through a Neuralink brain implant. However, the billionaire founder gave a recent update on its second product, which will be Blindsight.

Musk claims that it will “enable even those who are completely blind or have never seen to see,” and that it’s already “ready from an engineering standpoint” and “just waiting on regulatory approval.”

🤖 'It’s 100 percent a national security threat': Accenture contractor connected an AI agent to the Pentagon’s secure network, and then sent data to a high-risk website

An Accenture contractor at the Department of Defense is in hot water over an AI agent that was given access to the Pentagon's secure internal network. The Claude Code agent then collected data from the network — which is used by multiple intelligence agencies — and sent it to a third-party website.

Login credentials were confirmed to have been leaked by the agent, with other controlled unclassified information potentially put at risk.

"It puts all the data that's in there at risk. There could be somebody out there with the ability to log into a secure environment without anyone knowing," — the source said.

"It's 100 percent a national security threat and could cause irreparable harm."

For two months, the AI agent had access to the secure internal network before the risk was identified and patched — but sources say once the connection was discovered it was not treated as severe or urgent by Accenture employees.

🤑 Stellar is the home for builders of the financial future

“So as we close out Meridian 2026, here's what I want to see in the coming year. I just want to see more. I want to see more capital, more companies, more builders, more of what you've shown us this week. Together, we will make Stellar home for every single builder.

We will open up new markets and new corridors and we'll reach people wherever money needs to go. We will make on-chain feel like business as usual for all of the world's institutions. We will accelerate the next hundred trillion dollars of assets issued, moved, and deployed on-chain. I've never been more excited about where we're going.

So here's my ask. So before we're together again, which hopefully won't be next year, but it could be. Build one more piece, just one more piece of that world. Money was made to move, so will we,” — Denelle Dixon closing out Meridian 2026.

Onchain finance should be business as usual, and we only get there if you build the solutions to move more capital & open new markets. 🚀

📚 Fields Medal-winning UC Berkeley professor ends graded homework due to AI cheating

A University of California, Berkeley (UC Berkeley) professor has stopped giving his students graded homework, saying that rampant AI use has made it pointless. Renowned mathematician Richard Borcherds said that it’s now nearly impossible to tell the difference between a student-written submission and one that’s been created using AI.

Because of this, he now primarily uses in-person exams with no electronic devices to grade his students and see how well they are doing in his class. This problem appeared when OpenAI released the first popular LLM, GPT-3.5, in November 2022. But while LLMs were prone to mistakes back then, making their inordinate use easy to spot, the technology has improved to the point that it’s now very hard to tell if it's been used for written work.

💸 GM to pay $220 million to settle allegations it violated drivers' privacy

General Motors will pay $220 million to settle allegations that it illegally sold drivers' private behavior and location data to ‌brokers, who then sold the information to insurers that used it to set and sometimes increase rates.

The settlement resolves claims by the attorneys general of 35 US states and the District of Columbia over the automaker's Smart Driver program, which enrolled millions of drivers between 2016 and its discontinuation in 2024.

GM was accused of pitching Smart Driver to help people improve their personal driving safety, only to violate drivers' privacy by reneging on its promise not to sell their data without permission. Many people who signed up were also enrolled in GM's OnStar safety, navigation and diagnostic service.

"People bought a car, not a tracking device," — Oregon Attorney General Dan Rayfield said.

🤖 AI agents bypassed crypto spending limits without human approval, researchers find in a new test

AI agents given access to their owners' email accounts were able to increase their own cryptocurrency spending limits without human approval, raising questions about the safeguards designed to control autonomous payments, researchers at Cornell Tech and Yale University found.

📝 In experiments with stablecoin issuer Circle’s agent wallets, nine out of 10 models raised their spending caps at least once while paying invoices without an attacker involved. Only Anthropic’s Claude Opus 5.5 never tried to bypass the cap; instead, it spent up to its limit and reported remaining invoices to the user.

➡️ The researchers also introduced a simulated attacker in two separate experiments, sending malicious emails to the owner's inbox to persuade the agents to increase their spending limits or impersonating the owner to request a payment to an attacker-controlled wallet.

➡️ In the impersonation experiment, five of the 10 models raised their spending limits and sent money to the simulated attacker at least once, despite being instructed to summarize emails only.

❗️The results expose a problem for financial companies developing wallets that let AI agents make payments independently while requiring humans to approve changes to their spending authority.

“Most agent payment systems verify that an approval was received, but not necessarily that a human actually authorized it,” — Anthony Anzalone, founder and CEO of Verona, a verification network that recently launched a stablecoin for AI agents, said.

Adding approval steps would not resolve that gap unless authorization depended on something the agent could not independently access or generate, he said.

🧠 Scientists discover a surprising brain benefit of eating peanuts every day

Eating peanuts every day may offer surprising benefits for the aging brain. Researchers at Maastricht University Medical Center in the Netherlands have found that regularly consuming unsalted, skin-roasted peanuts can improve how certain brain regions respond to insulin in older adults.

Although insulin is best known for regulating blood sugar, it also plays an essential role in the brain. It helps nerve cells grow, survive, and communicate with one another, supporting memory and other cognitive abilities. Healthy insulin signaling may also help protect against processes associated with Alzheimer's disease.

After participants consumed peanuts daily for 16 weeks, researchers observed improved insulin responsiveness in a group of brain regions in the right hemisphere. These included portions of the lingual gyrus, hippocampus, parahippocampal gyrus, and posterior cingulate gyrus, all of which contribute to memory-related processes.

The findings come from the Institute of Nutrition and Translational Research in Metabolism (NUTRIM) and were published in the peer-reviewed journal Food & Function.
