🧠 Neuralink Advances BCI Technology

Neuralink says its clinical trial participants have now used implants for more than 50,000 hours, creating a large dataset of intracortical neural activity.

The company says this data has been used to pretrain a foundation model for BCI, with early results including:

🟣Calibration reduced from 10 minutes daily to 10 minutes weekly for some users
🟣Cursors that can jump directly toward intended targets
🟣A new cursor-control record of 11.32 bits per second

Neuralink says future work will focus on combining data across participants, one-shot or zero-shot calibration, and an API for the motor cortex.

The next generation of BCIs is taking shape. πŸš€

πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ NYC is now the first city in America that bans sketchy subscriptions

New York City residents struggling to get out of recurring subscription fees can now submit complaints to the city government. As of Thursday, the city’s click-to-cancel rule has taken effect, which requires businesses to make it as easy to cancel a subscription as it is to sign up.

➑️ That means a gym that lets you join online, for example, can’t make you call or go in person to end your subscription.

It’s the first municipality to see the rule take effect, after an appeals court struck down a federal version for procedural issues. The city expects it to save New Yorkers anywhere from $21.5 million to $162.5 million annually.

β€œNo one should need 45 minutes of hold music to stop paying for something they never wanted,” β€” NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani said.

β€œIf a company can take your money with one click, you should be able to get your money back with one click. And now, if they won’t let you cancel, the City is coming for them.”

πŸ‡ͺπŸ‡Ί ECB outlines three models for putting central bank money onchain

The European Central Bank is looking at three ways to bring central bank money onchain, Executive Board member Isabel Schnabel said on Thursday at the Bank of England’s Future of Money conference in London.

πŸ‘‰ One option would have the central bank issue reserves directly on a programmable platform.

πŸ‘‰ In another, the ECB’s existing real-time gross settlement system would remain in place, with an interoperability layer connecting it to DLT platforms. The reserves would not themselves be tokenized, but the two systems would be linked by hash.

πŸ‘‰ The third approach would tokenize reserves held at the central bank and issue settlement tokens fully backed by those reserves. Those tokens would be private claims, rather than claims issued directly by the central bank, per the presentation.

❗️Schnabel also addressed how an onchain monetary system could retain the two-tier structure used today. Central bank money would remain at the core of settlement, while commercial banks would continue to provide money and financial services to customers.

That structure would put central bank money on DLT infrastructure alongside tokenized financial assets, including securities and deposits, as well as stablecoins.

πŸ’Έ The Financial Literacy and Education Commission Releases the 2026 Update to the U.S. National Strategy for Financial Literacy

The U.S. Department of the Treasury applauded the release of the 2026 update to the U.S. National Strategy for Financial Literacy from the FLEC, which is chaired by the Secretary of the Treasury and is composed of the heads of 23 federal agencies and the White House Domestic Policy Council.

β€œThe newest U.S. National Strategy for Financial Literacy is a roadmap to help every American build the knowledge and skills needed to achieve financial security for themselves and their families,” β€” said Secretary Scott Bessent.

β€œThe advent of Trump Accounts demonstrates what this approach looks like in practice. By giving young Americans and their families an opportunity to save and invest together, we can make financial education tangible, help a new generation establish sound financial habits from an early age, and build the knowledge and confidence to participate in our financial markets.”

πŸ‡¦πŸ‡· Argentina to Offer Citizenship for $350,000 in South American First

Argentina's government launched a scheme it hopes will attract wealthy investors and simultaneously "further strengthen the Argentine Republic's fiscal and financial position," offering people the chance to apply for citizenship via investment and thus bypass the more typical procedures.

Economy Minister Luis Caputo and Cabinet chief Diego Santilli launched the citizenship-by-investment program amid the "Argentina Week" business event in Paris, saying it would start accepting applications during the fourth quarter of 2026.

"This announcement is part of Argentina's drive toward international openness and integration, accompanied by reforms aimed at strengthening the investment climate and attracting capital," β€” the Economy Ministry said.

❗️Under the plan, foreigners can obtain citizenship either by making a contribution to the state worth hundreds of thousands of dollars or by purchasing government bonds.

The contribution has been set at $350,000 (about 470 million won) for the main applicant. Family members can apply at an additional cost of $100,000 for a spouse and $25,000 for each child under 18, bringing the total for a family of four to $500,000 (about 670 million won). The bond route is more expensive, requiring the purchase of $800,000 (about 1.08 billion won) in government debt per person.

βš‘οΈπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ Trump promises another round of checks before the midterms

President Donald Trump announced plans to send β€œnearly $100" checks to more than 20 million seniors on Medicare.

β€œI pledged to protect and preserve Medicare and Social Security, which were on the verge of RUIN by Joe Biden, who foolishly and maliciously let tens of millions of Illegal Aliens into our Country, and we are doing just that for America’s Seniors,” β€” he said.

The checks, Trump said, would β€œhelp pay for their Medicare Part B premiums.”

Funding would come from the Medicare Improvement Fund.

πŸ€– Rogue OpenAI agent enters another NSW government website

OpenAI says a rogue agent accessed a second New South Wales government website in June, with authorities only informed of the "misalignment" this week.

The Premier's Department said the model entered a National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) web application containing historical information and data on fires. It said investigations have not found any unauthorised access to personal information.

"The NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW) is working with Cyber Security NSW and its technology service provider to investigate the matter and assess its impact," β€” the statement said.

πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ Trump Calls for Mandatory Prison Terms for Benefits Fraud

President Donald Trump on Saturday called on Congress to impose mandatory prison sentences on people convicted of defrauding Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security and proposed holding state and local politicians personally liable if they knowingly allow such fraud to continue.

"Today, I'm calling on Congress to pass legislation to address fraud in Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security programs," β€” Trump said in a video.

❗️Trump said the first part of his proposal would establish mandatory minimum sentences for people who steal from federal benefit programs, eliminating probation as an option.

"If you steal from the American people, you will go to prison and for a long period of time," β€” Trump said. "And the more you steal, the longer you'll stay in that prison."
