A federal judge ruled this week that a Tulsa, Oklahoma sheriff’s deputy violated a woman’s Fourth Amendment rights when using Flock Safety to search for her license plate without a warrant. This ruling does not create a binding precedent, but it is one of the first times that a federal judge has ruled that a Flock search is unconstitutional.
In this case, Judge Sara Hill said the deputy should have obtained a warrant before searching the Flock database for the woman’s license plate, as he had “no apparent reason” for the search “other than the fact that [the woman’s vehicle] had a California license plate.”
The judge’s opinion is one of the first times a federal judge has decided Flock searches can be unconstitutional, and suggested that Flock’s network is “a type of indiscriminate mass surveillance.”

A new window into the quantum realm has just been opened by a single microscopic grain of glass levitating in a beam of light. In what may be the world's tiniest disco, physicists intertwined the grain's properties with those of light so tightly that one could not be described without including the other.
This is quantum entanglement — and this experiment marks the first demonstration of persistent entanglement between the motion of a levitated object and light that travels away from it, all without cryogenically cooling the apparatus.
It's a milestone that the researchers say could open new avenues for quantum communication and tests of quantum physics.

PewDiePie, the popular YouTuber, has unveiled Ajax, his “uncensored AI model” built to run at home, and says in a new video that OpenAI banned him twice while he was making it.
According to the OpenAI email he shows, one ban was explicitly for “distillation,” the practice of using one model’s outputs or reasoning to train another. Ajax is built for Odysseus, his self-hosted AI workspace, as an autonomous, always-on agent and assistant.
The setup is similar to OpenClaw and Nous Research’s Hermes Agent. Ajax, a fine-tuned Qwen3.5-9B model, powers the workspace to handle “daily tasks from search to browse the web to email to your calendar,” all “completely privately,” according to its Ajax page.
The page says its refusal has been removed for a “freer, less restricted AI experience” and asks users to use it responsibly. The video announced the first version, using Alibaba’s model, as a follow-up to his workspace launch in May.

Scientists recently wrote the entirety of the human genome onto a small 5D glass crystal with lasers. This new durable glass media could preserve all of humanity’s knowledge and history for up to 10,000 years, but conceivably for billions of years.
Researchers at the University of Southampton developed glass plates or crystals with five dimensions — three spatial and two optical — that can store up to 360 terabytes. The crystals are made of pure fused silica or quartz glass, which is over 99% silica, or silicon dioxide (SiO2).
One of the most durable materials on Earth, this glass shrugs off fire, temperatures up to 1,000 degrees Celsius, direct impact of half a ton, humidity, liquid, and electromagnetic pulses. Once information is recorded on it, the material requires no energy to preserve and could conceivably last for billions of years.
The nature of glass storage means data can’t be stolen or corrupted using traditional hacking methods. The tool to access and read the data could become available for businesses to use in a few years, researchers say, and one developer is aiming for commercial deployment in about five years.

At the 23rd Annual Meeting of the Science and Technology in Society (STS) Forum convened in Kyoto, the United States and 16 countries endorsed the Kyoto Vision for a Golden Age of Science. The joint declaration reflects a shared ambition to renew and strengthen our science ecosystems and usher in a golden age of discovery and prosperity.
“The way we make scientific discoveries has changed, and the Kyoto Vision is a recognition of that shift and a call to action,” — said Director Kratsios.
“Super intelligence applied to science will be the greatest force in history for democratizing research. Seizing this moment requires us to reinvigorate our research enterprises and leverage new institutional models for discovery. Under President Trump’s leadership, the U.S. is leading that charge, and the Kyoto Vision shows the world is ready to move forward with us.”

Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs’ party won a record number of seats in Latvia’s parliamentary election. United List was set to take 42 seats in the Baltic nation’s 100-member parliament, the central election commission said, with more than 95% of ballots counted. The result is the best recorded by a single party since Latvia regained independence from the Soviet Union in 1991.

Bernie Sanders calls the proposed tax on California billionaires the most important ballot measure in America.
“The whole country, and frankly people from around the world, are paying attention to what is happening here,” — he told a rapturous crowd on Saturday. “People are asking: ‘Is it possible?’ And you are going to do it and show the world it is possible!”
The initiative, a health care union’s bid to offset federal cuts with a one-time, 5% tax on California billionaires, has scrambled the politics of this Democratic stronghold while reverberating far beyond the state.

Russia’s Finance Ministry paid some employees in digital rubles for first time on October 1. Receiving salary in digital rubles remains optional. Employees can continue receiving wages through existing payment methods, while people who choose the digital version must open an account on the central bank platform themselves.
Russia moved nearly 16 million rubles through digital budget trials during 2025 before this rollout. Major banks began offering digital ruble services nationwide on September 1 under Russia’s phased rollout. The move reflects accelerating momentum among major economies to deploy functional CBDCs as alternatives to traditional monetary systems.
This pilot opens the door for broader government applications of digital rubles across budget cycles and international state-level transactions.

Challenges to data center development in the US are about to have the battle weighted against them with the unveiling of the American Infrastructure Alliance (AIA), a group of companies and unions that seek to overturn objections to new facilities.
Comprising OpenAI, global data center company QTS, investment company Softbank, management experts Blackstone, and seven unions including the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, this coalition plans to establish guardrails for data center development in 2027.
The American Infrastructure Alliance plans to launch its initial defensive strategy in Texas, Georgia, Ohio, Iowa, Pennsylvania, Indiana and South Carolina.
