Sayyid al-Qa'id was not in favor of continuing the war; otherwise, permission would not have been given for the negotiations in Pakistan to proceed. Rather, the phrase "in principle" (ʿala al-uṣūl) meant that, in his view, any negotiations should have been conducted on the basis of specific conditions. That was the author's intended point.
📝 Postscript:
The funeral procession for the martyred leader requires a period of relative calm. It would not be possible to hold such a ceremony while enemy warplanes are carrying out attacks.
After the funeral, the fighting can resume.
At the very least, out of respect for the funeral ceremony of the martyred leader, be patient first—then continue the war, and we will see whether its stated objective, "the collapse of Israel," can be achieved in the short term.
