The saying "Down the Memory Hole!" comes from the novel 1984 by George Orwell (Eric Blair).

What is currently happening could have worse effects than the fire at the Library of Alexandria.

AI companies such as "Anthropic" buy up antiquarian books worldwide, scan them, and destroy the originals. Many people, or should I rather say NPCs, have already disposed of their books.

Future generations will no longer have the opportunity to verify what AI sells them as "truth".

In the novel 1984, the party constantly changes old newspapers and books. False facts are made the only truth. No doubt is allowed, because there is no evidence for another story.

So whoever determines what happened in the past also determines how people think today and act tomorrow.

Solution No.1:

A draft for this unpopular law to expand the surveillance state was already in the drawer. Without the event, it would probably not have been possible to achieve a majority in Congress.

Solution No.2:

War against Afghanistan and Iraq

For these two wars, too, there would have been no support from the American people. Fear (of terrorists, of an "evil dictator," of a virus, of CO2,...) is a proven means of bringing the population into line.

For the few who are not so easily put into fear of a mostly fictitious event or an event deliberately brought about by a domestic or foreign intelligence service, the fear of the media-incited mob or fear of embarrassement remains.

Who wants to be seen as "antisocial" or "lacking solidarity" in front of their fellow human beings?
