💦 Scientists Turn Humidity Into Electricity With Power-Generating Wallpaper

Researchers at Binghamton University developed a full-size sheet containing 1,596 interconnected moisture-electric cells. At 80% humidity, it generated around 0.34 volts at a power density of 2.2 μW/cm², enough to run a wireless keyboard without batteries.

The technology uses glycerin to absorb moisture, while a specially patterned polymer layer and wax control evaporation and help move water through the material. It requires no sunlight to work.

The potential goes beyond powering small electronics. In typical indoor humidity conditions of 30–60%, the material could eventually supply energy to smart thermostats and climate sensors. Experiments also showed a drop in humidity from 38% to 32%.

The output is still measured in microwatts, nowhere near enough to power energy-hungry appliances. For now, the promise lies in low-power devices that could operate without batteries or frequent charging.

❗️Elon Musk’s Grok shopping demo backfires after he exposes his own order details

Elon Musk encouraged users to upload photos of their credit cards to Grok Bot so it could find the best deals and shop for them. Then he demonstrated the feature himself and accidentally exposed his LEGO order number, email address and the last four digits of his card.

Pranksters quickly jumped in. One claimed to have tricked LEGO’s AI support bot into requesting a cancellation, while another claimed to have placed 400 additional orders and changed the delivery address. Those claims remain unverified, and a cancellation request isn’t proof the order was actually canceled.

Musk wants AI to handle shopping for you. The question is how much access you’re willing to give it and what happens when things go wrong.

Researchers at the University of Toronto have developed a new foot design for hopping robots to navigate challenging terrain.

Its footpad uses tiny steel spines for better grip and a flexible joint that adapts to uneven surfaces. The design could help robots land and rebound more reliably on slippery and loose ground.

Two years ago, SpaceX did something straight out of science fiction: catching a skyscraper-sized rocket booster out of the sky with giant chopsticks

On October 13, 2024, Super Heavy returned to Starbase and was caught by the launch tower on the very FIRST attempt. Since then, SpaceX has successfully caught Super Heavy two more times and even reflown a previously caught booster

🚀 SpaceX is turning Starlink into a giant space-surveillance network

SpaceX’s Starlink constellation has grown beyond 11,000 satellites, and the company is using that massive network to help monitor Earth’s orbit.

Through Stargaze, SpaceX uses around 30,000 star trackers to detect objects passing through their field of view, recording approximately 30 million transits per day. The system could significantly improve how quickly operators detect and track potential orbital threats.

Meanwhile, Starlink satellites autonomously perform more than 1,000 collision-avoidance maneuvers daily. SpaceX also provides collision-warning data to other satellite operators for free.

🤖Cyborgs are getting closer to reality

Bionic limbs are moving beyond simply replacing lost movement. Scientists are now working to restore something just as important: the sense of touch.

Researchers at the University of Utah are testing a thought-controlled LUKE Arm paired with the BIOS Controller, a system that uses neural signals to control a robotic hand and electrical stimulation of nerves to produce touch-related sensations.

The first participant, Avi Davidson, has already used the technology to write, play cards, prepare food, open a jar, and even hold his wife’s hand.

Now, the research is entering a new phase, a planned one-year clinical trial testing the system at home, moving this technology beyond the laboratory.

For millions of people living with limb loss, this could represent a major step toward restoring not just function, but also physical connection with the world around them.

🧠 Scientists mapped a tiny piece of the human brain and uncovered a hidden world

Researchers from Harvard and Google reconstructed a cubic millimeter of human brain tissue in 3D, exposing a dense network of cells and connections invisible to the naked eye.

The results are staggering: around 57,000 cells, 150 million synapses and 1.4 petabytes of data.

Using powerful electron microscopes and advanced computing, the team traced individual cells and their connections, revealing intricate structures that scientists are only beginning to understand.

And this was just a tiny fragment of the brain. Mapping the entire organ at comparable resolution would require an extraordinary leap in imaging, computing and data storage.

⚠️Scientists report improved vision in first human trial of cellular reprogramming

An experimental therapy designed to make aging cells behave younger has shown promising early results, with two of three glaucoma patients experiencing improved vision after eight weeks.

Life Biosciences’ ER-100 uses genetic instructions for three regulatory proteins to reprogram cells and potentially repair damaged optic nerves without changing the underlying DNA sequence.

No serious adverse events were reported in the initial data, and an independent safety board recommended increasing the dose for the next patient cohort.

The findings are preliminary, with just three patients involved. But they mark an important step toward testing whether cellular reprogramming could one day treat age-related damage in humans.

🤖 Open-source humanoid Primo walks in simulation

Alessio Pagliai released a full 1.4 m CAD for Primo: 30 degrees of freedom, 3D-printable parts, about 45 kg, and motors in the shins that tilt each ankle through pushrods. A controller trained in NVIDIA Isaac Lab walks the virtual robot over 5–23 cm steps. The files are on GitHub; no physical robot has been built yet.

🔮 Google reports 99.99% accuracy on a key quantum step

Google reported a record 99.99% accuracy producing “magic states” — special quantum building blocks needed for reliable calculations — on its 105-qubit Willow chip, according to Science.

That is a high-accuracy result on this one required step, on this processor. It is not, by itself, a working general-purpose quantum computer.

⚠️A young Chinese neurotechnology company wiped out U.S. smart prosthetic firms that had boasted about their "advanced prosthetics" for years.

BrainCo’s bionic hand weighs just 383 grams, delivers more than 50N of grip force, interprets neural and muscle signals, and lets users grasp, type, drink, exercise and control the hand almost intuitively.

Western companies made smart prosthetics look like futuristic luxury hardware. China is turning them into something lighter, stronger, more practical and increasingly manufacturable.

The real disruption is not that China made a better demo. It is that China is industrializing what others kept presenting as the future.

🇨🇳 China’s artificial womb technology could change pregnancy forever

Scientists are exploring technology that could one day allow babies to develop outside the human body. But despite viral claims about a Chinese “pregnancy robot,” a machine capable of carrying a human baby from conception to birth has not been demonstrated.

Researchers have already made promising progress with artificial womb systems designed to support extremely premature animal fetuses. These systems aim to recreate some of the womb’s functions, providing oxygen and nutrients in a controlled, fluid-filled environment.

The challenge is reproducing the complex role of the human placenta and supporting every stage of fetal development. That remains far beyond current capabilities.

If scientists eventually succeed, the technology could transform care for premature babies and potentially offer new options for people unable to carry a pregnancy. But it would also raise difficult questions about safety, parental rights, ethics, and the role of pregnancy in human reproduction.
