“I’m getting paid to do what I love — I feel like I’m living the dream.”
For Nur Shukrina Salam (Bachelor of Law, Class of 2021) from the SMU Yong Pung How School of Law, that dream is about using the law to serve those who need it most.
At just 27, she chose to take a pay cut to become the sole full-time lawyer at the Migrant Workers’ Law Centre @ MWC — providing free legal consultations to migrant workers navigating unpaid wages, workplace injuries and complex legal challenges.
Through patient guidance and advocacy, she helps workers understand their rights and options — ensuring they feel seen and heard as individuals.
