🔘 SJW

What does SJW stand for?

◻️Social Justice Warrior

SJW stands for "Social Justice Warrior," which refers to a person who is very passionate about social justice issues. It is often used online to make fun of outspoken people that are socially progressive.

While social justice activism has been prevalent for centuries, the "SJW" acronym didn't gain prominent usage until the 2010s. It became popular on social sites online, like Twitter and Facebook, to criticize people who really care about social issues like civil rights and feminism.

The acronym is mainly used by socially conservative people to ridicule a progressive person's "outspokenness" about a social issue. It is also used to imply that the person wants attention or validation more than being led by actual convictions of social injustices.

❓Example
We need to defund the police now!
Oh great, another SJW incoming.

🔘 Theybie

What is a theybie?

◻️A gender-neutral baby

A theybie is a baby that is being raised in a gender-neutral environment to protect against gender socialization. As the theybie matures, they can choose to identify as a male, female, or nonbinary (NB or Enby).

The purpose of raising kids as theybies is to not push them into gender stereotypes or roles and let them have full control over their identity. This parenting strategy includes no gender reveal party, gender-specific colors or decorations, clothes, or toys.

The "theybie" term became popular in 2018 and is a combination of "they" and "baby." It is primarily used by progressive parents looking to unburden kids with the expectation to behave a certain way or become something just because of their gender.

❓Example
Katie and Jon asked for no gifts for their theybie.

🔘 SAHD

◻️Stay-at-home dad

A SAHD is a "stay-at-home dad," a father who stays at home and takes care of his child(ren). His full-time job is maintaining the house and the kid(s) in it instead of a full-time position out of the house (which his partner likely holds).

SAHD is similar to a SAHM, which is more common. However, the difference has waned due to the gender pay gap decrease and the influx of women in the workforce.
You will likely see the SAHD acronym in parenting forums, in messages, and on social sites like Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook. For example, you might text your recently let-go brother-in-law, "How's SAHD life treating you?"

❓Example
The number of SAHDs seems to be increasing lately.

🔘 Bro

What is a bro?

Bro is short for "brother," which may be an actual blood brother or brother-in-law. Guys also commonly use it to refer to a close male friend.

However, guys also use bro to refer to close male friends with no family ties (sometimes called a bromance).

In these cases, the guys are typically young (in their teens or twenties), into sports and partying, and looking to pick up women. Common bro stereotypes are fraternity brothers, surfers, and sports teammates.
For many, these types of bros conjure up negative connotations that all bros are muscular and unintelligent. However, it's never wise to assume who is and isn't a bro since bros come in all shapes and sizes and are not limited to a specific type of male.

🔘 F4F

What does F4F mean on social media?

◻️Follow for follow
F4F means "follow for follow." It is used on Twitter, TikTok, and Instagram to tell other users that, if they follow you, you'll follow them back - ensuring that both your follower counts grow.
Because social media platforms boost posts made by people with large numbers of followers, many users attempt to gain followers however they can. F4Fing is a relatively mild and organic way of attempting to gain followers, as opposed to spamming hashtags in your posts or utilizing algorithms and bots to gain followers automagically.
If you want to let people know you'll follow them if they follow you, be sure to add the #F4F hashtag to your Twitter, TikTok, or Insta posts. If you want to look for users who will follow you if you follow them, you can search for others' use of the #F4F hashtag.

🔘 Can Of Corn

What is a "can of corn" in baseball?

◻️An easy catch by a fielder

In baseball, a can of corn is an easy catch by a fielder, such as a highly hit ball (pop fly) that gives the infield or outfield defender a lot of time to settle under it to make the catch. While uncommon, you may still see or hear baseball commentators or fans use the term during a game, in person, or online.

For example, during an MLB game, a play-by-play commentator may say, "Lewis grabs the can of corn to end the inning." Or, a fan may complain about a hitter's poor hitting streak and say, "Kepler is in such a slump right now. Every AB is a K or can of corn." You may also hear people refer to a can of corn as a "pop fly," "weak flyball," or "routine fly."

Origin of can of corn in baseball

The slang term "can of corn" originates from the placement of cans of corn on the top shelves in grocery stores in the early 20th century. To get them down, a worker would use a pole with a hook to move it off the shelf while another worker would be in a position under the can to easily catch it with their apron.

Baseball historians credit MLB play-by-play broadcaster Red Barber for popularizing the saying in baseball during his tenure from the 1930s to the 60s. He called games for the Cincinnati Reds, Brooklyn Dodgers, and New York Yankees.

❓Example
And with that can of corn by Johnson, the Panthers win it 5 to 1.

🔘 Get Oofed

What does get oofed mean?

◻️Get wrecked

Get oofed means "get wrecked." Roblox players, especially, use this term to jokingly mock other players and also people IRL.
Roblox is a free-to-play MMOG that allows players to play dozens of different types of online games within one game platform. While the game is largely silly and does not force players into contentious situations, play characters can die in Roblox. When a character dies, they make an "oof" sound, leading players to coin the phrase "get oofed" and use it in place of "get wrecked" or "get rekt" when they kill another player or witness that player's death.

If you interact with a Roblox player in real life (especially a younger one), they might tell you to "get oofed" when they beat you at chess, see you fall off a hoverboard, or realize how old you are. They may, however, regain some respect for you when they realize that you know what "get oofed" means.

❓Example
Ah, shoot, you sunk my battleship.
Oh yeah get oofed, Uncle Matt!
