🔘 420

What does 420 mean?

◻️Marijuana

420 is a code name for pot or marijuana that is pronounced "4-20." The term may refer to buying or smoking weed or to the counterculture day celebrated on April 20 (4/20).

Potheads see 4/20 as a day to celebrate weed and get high. The day most likely sees record sales in snacks due to the munchies.

🔘 CGPT

What is CGPT short for?

◻️ChatGPT

Those discussing the AI chatbot ChatGPT may shorten the bot's name to CGPT. For example, you might see CGPT used in a forum post discussing ChatGPT's "conversational prowess," or a news article describing the chatbot's "factual errors."

What is ChatGPT?

ChatGPT (which is itself short for Chat Generative Pre-Trained Transformer) is a chatbot developed by OpenAI. When a user chats with ChatGPT, the bot uses algorithms to analyze a large database of original textual sources (including news articles, books, websites, and more), searching for text and patterns related to the user's message. It then uses the information and patterns it discovers to generate a response.

After CGPT was released in November 2022, nerds around the world began having conversations with the bot. They also used CGPT to write computer programs, stories, essays, emails, and other content, as well as answer factual questions. While CGPT is more advanced than its chatbot predecessors, it still has some flaws, including a tendency to "hallucinate" content - providing information that sounds convincing and correct, but is actually inaccurate.

❓Example
I got CGPT to tell me World War II is still happening the other day

I keep trying to get it to tell me its favorite ice cream flavor. No success so far

🔘 Bounce

What does bounce mean in CCGs?

◻️Return a card to a player's hand

In Hearthstone, Magic: The Gathering (MTG), and other CCGs, to bounce a card means to return it from the battlefield to its owner's hand. For example, the MTG card Unsummon allows you to bounce an in-play creature (and is MTG's most iconic bounce spell).

There are many reasons a player might want to bounce an in-play card (usually a minion or creature) to their own or their opponent's hand. When used on an opponent's creature, a bounce spell acts as a soft removal spell, buying time in which you can either defeat your opponent or topdeck a permanent answer to their creature. Using a bounce spell on your own creature can protect it from your opponent's removal or allow you to re-use the creature's Battlecry or "enters the battlefield" (ETB) ability.

What is the difference between a bounce spell and a blink spell?

In MTG, bounce spells and blink spells are similar yet different. A bounce spell returns a card to its owner's hand, while a blink spell causes a card to temporarily leave and then re-enter the battlefield. However, a blinked card never returns to its owner's hand and does not have to be replayed. This makes blink spells a better choice than bounce spells for abusing "enters the battlefield" abilities.

I'll bounce your Grizzly Bears with Echoing Truth and attack

🔘 AFAIK

What does AFAIK stand for?

◻️As far as I know

AFAIK tells another person that your opinion, belief, or statement is contingent on the limited information you know at that time. It stands for "as far as I know," and it is often used to preface an opinion or statement of personal experience at the beginning of a sentence.
AFAIK is similar to saying "as far as I'm concerned ..." or "from the information I have ..." It tells the recipient you could be wrong because you don't have perfect information.

Most people send AFAIK in text messages and when messaging online. Examples of when you might use AFAIK include sharing an opinion about a friend's love life or advising a student on what to do after high school.

❓Example

🔘 Crunchy

What kind of lifestyle is crunchy?

◻️Natural and sustainable lifestyle

Crunchy is a lifestyle that prioritizes natural and sustainable living practices, such as eating organic food, composting waste, and using cloth diapers. The term comes from the crunchiness of granola, another label for people who embrace aspects of hippie-like alternative living.

The crunchy movement grew substantially in the 2010s, leading to many blogs and social media influencers (often moms) touting the lifestyle (promoting their products and concoctions). The community largely rejects mainstream food, products, and medicinal methods that the greater public has accepted. Instead of conforming, they do lots of "online research" to do what feels best for them.

Because they are so zealous about their lifestyle, they often protest the government and large pharmaceutical companies ("big pharma"). For example, they may refuse to vaccinate their kids and instead make natural home remedies for treating sicknesses.

❓Example
My mom is so crunchy. She only buys organic food and checks the chemicals in everything

My mom is the exact opposite. We had potato chips and hot dogs for dinner last night

🔘 MMB

What does MMB stand for in messages?

◻️Message me back

If time is sensitive and you need a quick reply from someone, you can send them "MMB," which stands for "message me back." It is similar to WMB, and people primarily use it when messaging.
For example, when excited about a job promotion, you might text your partner, "I got the job!, MMB!" Or, your crush may have just asked you out, and you message your bestie, "DeShaun just asked me to dinner. MMB. Imma explode!"
Most instances of MMB are when a person is crunched for time. For example, there may be a window closing for purchasing tickets for an event, getting food orders, or an impromptu road trip. However, some people may use it just to communicate who they would like to receive a reply (e.g., by message instead of phone).

❓Example
I have huge news. MMB as soon as you get this msg!
What?!?
I got 2 tix to T Swift this Friday!!! Wanna go?

🔘 TMB

What does TMB stand for?

◻️Text me back

Someone who sends you TMB (text me back) wants you to text them back - likely ASAP. This acronym most frequently appears in text messages, but may also be seen in emails and online chat, when a person wants you to answer their message via text instead of another medium.

TMB is related to CMB (call me back), MMB (message me back), and WMB (write me back). It is more likely to be used by friends and family members than co-workers and employees/employers, as friends and family members are more comfortable texting each other.

Wait ... what's a backronym?
Glad you asked. A backronym is an acronym that is created to fit an already existing word. In this case, the word hope already existed, and some clever soul decided to coin an acronym that a) used hope's letters and b) defined the act of hoping. Pretty nifty, huh?

🔘 ASMR

What kind of videos are ASMR?

◻️Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response

ASMR means Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response, but these days, the acronym is more commonly used to describe a genre of YouTube videos that trigger ASMR sensations. The videos typically feature someone performing a quiet, repetitive task, such as whisking an egg, or speaking in a slow, low whisper. These stimuli trigger relaxing, tingling sensations in some viewers.

The term ASMR is believed to have originated in 2010, when a forum poster named Jennifer Allen coined the term to describe the spontaneous, euphoric sensations she and other posters experienced in response to certain audio and visual stimuli. Usually, these stimuli take the form of:

A soft, slow-paced speaking voice

Repetitive motions or sounds, usually produced by performing a mundane task

Chewing, crunching, popping, or tapping sounds

Certain hand movements, especially a person moving their hand to their face

Attentive role play

Despite ASMR's rise in pop culture prevalence (and its surprisingly clinical-sounding expansion), science has yet to explain the phenomenon. Some researchers believe ASMR is a pleasure response triggered within areas of the brain related to social or grooming behavior, while others believe ASMR could be a type of (very minor and likely harmless) seizure.

❓Example
Oh, that tapping sound ... that gives me some really good ASMR. I didn't know typing could make me feel so good

🔘 Rp

What is rp short for?

◻️Roleplay

Rp is short for "roleplay" (which may also be spelled "role play" or "role-play"). People often use this abbreviation when playing RPGs, but anyone engaging in a bit of make-believe may also use it.

When roleplaying, a person mimics the personality and behavior of a (usually) made-up character. For example, DnD players often roleplay as fighters, wizards, rogues, and other fantasy characters.

However, anyone can engage in roleplay, and roleplay does not need to involve fantasy characters or even RPGs. For example, therapists often engage their clients in therapeutic roleplay, and some couples (and throuples) enjoy roleplaying to spice up their love lives.

🔘 Throw Hands

What does it mean to throw hands?

◻️Fight

Throw hands is a slang term that means "Fight." It is typically used online but is also commonly spoken in real-life to refer to physical or verbal confrontations.

Throw hands began to gain popularity in the mid-2010s then surged in 2019 and into 2020. It is most often seen on social sites, like Twitter and Facebook, where arguments are commonplace. Some variations of the term include "Throwing hands" and "Give 'em the hands."

◻️To shoot a gun

Bust a cap is a phrase that means "to shoot a gun," typically in the direction of a person to injure or kill him. It became popular in the mid-2000s in rap culture to brag about toughness or threaten other rappers.
While the term was heavily used in the 2000s by rappers, it was not coined by them. The phrase comes from "burst a cap," which dates back to the 1800s to describe the discharging of a firearm. The phrase was even used in the 1969 film True Grit when Ned Pepper says "I never busted a cap on a woman or nobody under sixteen."

🔘 Gate Lice

What does gate lice mean?

◻️People congregating around an airport gate

Lice makes everyone's skin crawl, and "gate lice" does the same for seasoned airplane travelers. Gate lice refers to passengers who get up and stand around a gate waiting to board the airplane instead of waiting for the gate attendant to announce their seating zone.

Veteran flyers get annoyed by gate lice because they congest the entrance for other passengers, possibly causing confusion and leading to longer wait times. For example, people waiting for their seat might be unable to hear their zone called or see a sign displaying the zone because of all the gate lice in their way.

❓Example
Aren't you seated in zone 2? They called it 5 minutes ago
I didn't even know my zone was called with all the gate lice noise
