What does meme mean?

◻️A piece of media that spreads via the Internet
A meme is a piece of media, such as an image, video, hashtag, or hyperlink, that spreads through the Internet and goes viral. The most popular form of meme is an image with humorous text.
Memes have become extremely popular due to the rise in social media and mobile device use. As people are on their devices more, they consume a lot of content and share things they like quicker. 🔘 Break The Internet

What does break the internet mean?

◻️To cause something to go viral online
Break the Internet is a phrase used to describe when a story, meme, video, etc. goes viral. It is used as an exaggeration (which is what 98% of Internet users love to do) since it would require a lot more effort to actually break the Internet.

The phrase started to become popular in the early 2010s and plays off the idea that the Internet is a machine that can be "broken." One of the more famous uses of the term occurred when Paper Magazine featured a cover photo of Kim Kardashian in 2014 and declared that the picture would "break the Internet."

❓Example
Did u c that viral video about Star Wars?
Yeah it's probs gonna break the Internet.

🔘 KEKW

What does KEKW mean on Twitch?

◻️Laughter

In Twitch chat, KEKW represents laughter. It is used similarly to LOL and lulz by gamers who want to show that something made them laugh.

Where does KEKW come from?
KEKW is a combination of KEK, which is the Korean equivalent of LOL, and the letter W, which Twitch chat users often use to convey an exaggerated facial expression. Together, KEK + W became KEKW - a term that means "exaggerated, hearty laughter."
However, KEKW took off only after it became a Twitch emote (a word that is linked to and can transform into a specific picture when entered in Twitch chat). The FrankerFaceZ Twitch extension linked KEKW with a picture of "Spanish Laughing Guy" Juan Joya Borja, a comedian and actor who is most famous for a memetic interview he gave in 2007. (You can watch the interview below.) Twitch users loved the "Spanish Laughing Guy" emote so much that they began using it and KEKW more frequently.

How is KEKW used?
These days, you may see both the KEKW emote and the term itself pop up in Twitch chat when a streamer does something amusing or embarrassing, or when another Twitch chat user says something funny. Users with access to the KEKW emote can enter :KEKW: in Twitch chat to generate the emote. If you don't want to use the KEKW emote, you can just enter KEKW itself in chat to represent hearty laughter.

❓Example

What a wild, hilarious game. KEKW KEKW

What does troll mean?

◻️A person who posts offensive comments
A troll is a person who posts offensive comments to get a reaction. Trolls often live in forums and online chat sessions but may appear wherever there are Internet users.
Trolls commonly post comments that aren't true in order to provoke people and/or get people to believe them. The best defense against trolls is to not give them the reaction they are looking for. 🔘 GNST

What does GNST stand for?

◻️Good night, sleep tight
GNST is a common way to end a conversation online or in a text message before going to bed. It stands for "good night, sleep tight," which is a popular saying for wishing a goodnight's rest for a person.

Where did GNST come from?

There are no clear origins for the actual saying, but one common narrative comes from the 1800s when tight strings or ropes that supported a mattress translated into a restful sleep. People began using GNST as shorthand for the saying in the 2000s as the Internet and cell phone usage increased.

When do I use GNST?
You can use GNST in texts, emails, and online when it's late at night and you are about to go to bed. Or you may use it when you know the recipient is going to rest, possibly taking a mid-day nap due to a newborn baby or working the night shift.

🔘 Radio Baby

What is a radio baby?

◻️A person born between 1928 and 1945
A radio baby is a person that is part of The Silent Generation, the period when people are born between 1928 and 1945. They are born after members of The Greatest Generation and before the Baby Boomer (boomers) generation.
The name comes from the advent and subsequent prevalence of radios during the period in which they were born. In America, radio babies grew up during the Great Depression and World War II, which left an indelible mark on them. Because of this time of scarcity and uncertainty, their generation is significantly smaller than the generations before and after them.
In general, radio babies are parents of boomers and Gen Xers and grandparents of millennials and Gen Zers (aka zoomers). Additionally, the generation is often characterized as conforming to traditionalism (also known as "traditionalists"), hard-working, financially prudent, and resilient.

❓Example
My grandpa was a radio baby and so concerned about us not wasting any food.
Yeah, The Great Depression definitely left a mark on him.

🔘 Snowmageddon

What kind of storm is a snowmageddon?

◻️A powerful snowstorm
Snowmageddon is a weather event that produces a lot of snow, prompting the feeling that the world is about to end, thus the "armageddon" attachment to "snow." For example, if an impending snowstorm is predicted to dump 2 feet of snow, people may say, "Stay off the roads for snowmageddon!"
Since social media loves hyperbole, you will likely see the snowmageddon online as people freak out about a storm. Additionally, the term is very subjective since people and regions have different experiences with snow. For example, someone from Minnesota is used to a foot of snow from a snowstorm, but someone from Alabama is not.
While some people use snowmageddon seriously, some may use it mockingly. For example, if a snowstorm doesn't live up to projections from a dire forecast, people may remark, "Those 4 inches from snowmageddon really ended the world."

❓Example
Be sure to stock up on food before the snowmageddon this weekend!

🔘 Parennial

What is a parennial?

◻️A parent born between 1981 and 1996

A parennial is a millennial parent, which means they were born between 1981 and 1996, and most likely have one or more Gen Z or Gen Alpha kids. The name comes from the combination of "parent" and "millennial" and is not to be confused with the "perennial" flower.
Parennials rose to prevalence in the 2010s as most began parenting in the mid-to-late- 2010s. Many are raising kids side-by-side with technology, such as smartphones and tablets, and total immersion in social media, which is brand new territory compared to previous generations. Additionally, many parennials are parenting kids differently than previous generations, becoming more involved and protective.
You will likely see parennial online in parenting forums or hear the term used by a Gen Xer or boomer. Additionally, people may use parennial positively or negatively depending on how they view the parenting styles.

❓Example

Of course, he did. He raised himself because his dad was absent his whole life and his mom worked most of the day.

🔘 Savage

What does savage mean?

◻️Viciously cool
When something or someone is "savage," it is "extremely good" or "viciously cool." Although the formal definition of savage normally means "wild" or "untamed," the slang term plays off this definition to describe something cool in a BA sort of way.
Savage is similar to the sick and beast terms that began as negative terms but have been flipped to describe something as cool or good. People commonly pair savage with the AF acronym to accentuate the coolness of something or someone. For example, a skater may describe a trick as "savage af."

❓Example
