🔘 Bro

What is a bro?

◻️Brother

Bro is short for "brother," which may be an actual blood brother or brother-in-law. Guys also commonly use it to refer to a close male friend.
When used with family members, bro is a straightforward abbreviation that simply refers to a brother. For example, you may text your brother, "Hey bro. You coming to mom and dad's this Sunday"

However, guys also use bro to refer to close male friends with no family ties (sometimes called a bromance).

In these cases, the guys are typically young (in their teens or twenties), into sports and partying, and looking to pick up women. Common bro stereotypes are fraternity brothers, surfers, and sports teammates.
For many, these types of bros conjure up negative connotations that all bros are muscular and unintelligent. However, it's never wise to assume who is and isn't a bro since bros come in all shapes and sizes and are not limited to a specific type of male.

❓Example
Sup bro? How u doing?
Good. U?
I'm great, bro.

🔘 F4F

What does F4F mean on social media?

◻️Follow for follow
F4F means "follow for follow." It is used on Twitter, TikTok, and Instagram to tell other users that, if they follow you, you'll follow them back - ensuring that both your follower counts grow.
Because social media platforms boost posts made by people with large numbers of followers, many users attempt to gain followers however they can. F4Fing is a relatively mild and organic way of attempting to gain followers, as opposed to spamming hashtags in your posts or utilizing algorithms and bots to gain followers automagically.
If you want to let people know you'll follow them if they follow you, be sure to add the #F4F hashtag to your Twitter, TikTok, or Insta posts. If you want to look for users who will follow you if you follow them, you can search for others' use of the #F4F hashtag.

❓Example
RT if you need followers! I love you all! #F4F #FF

🔘 Can Of Corn

What is a "can of corn" in baseball?

◻️An easy catch by a fielder

In baseball, a can of corn is an easy catch by a fielder, such as a highly hit ball (pop fly) that gives the infield or outfield defender a lot of time to settle under it to make the catch. While uncommon, you may still see or hear baseball commentators or fans use the term during a game, in person, or online.

For example, during an MLB game, a play-by-play commentator may say, "Lewis grabs the can of corn to end the inning." Or, a fan may complain about a hitter's poor hitting streak and say, "Kepler is in such a slump right now. Every AB is a K or can of corn." You may also hear people refer to a can of corn as a "pop fly," "weak flyball," or "routine fly."

Origin of can of corn in baseball

The slang term "can of corn" originates from the placement of cans of corn on the top shelves in grocery stores in the early 20th century. To get them down, a worker would use a pole with a hook to move it off the shelf while another worker would be in a position under the can to easily catch it with their apron.

Baseball historians credit MLB play-by-play broadcaster Red Barber for popularizing the saying in baseball during his tenure from the 1930s to the 60s. He called games for the Cincinnati Reds, Brooklyn Dodgers, and New York Yankees.

❓Example
And with that can of corn by Johnson, the Panthers win it 5 to 1.
What a great way to start the season.

🔘 Get Oofed

What does get oofed mean?

◻️Get wrecked

Get oofed means "get wrecked." Roblox players, especially, use this term to jokingly mock other players and also people IRL.
Roblox is a free-to-play MMOG that allows players to play dozens of different types of online games within one game platform. While the game is largely silly and does not force players into contentious situations, play characters can die in Roblox. When a character dies, they make an "oof" sound, leading players to coin the phrase "get oofed" and use it in place of "get wrecked" or "get rekt" when they kill another player or witness that player's death.

If you interact with a Roblox player in real life (especially a younger one), they might tell you to "get oofed" when they beat you at chess, see you fall off a hoverboard, or realize how old you are. They may, however, regain some respect for you when they realize that you know what "get oofed" means.

❓Example
Ah, shoot, you sunk my battleship.
Oh yeah get oofed, Uncle Matt!

🔘 DND

What does DND stand for?

◻️Dungeons & Dragons

Dungeons & Dragons is a popular tabletop role-playing game (RPG) that allows players to imagine themselves as fantasy characters adventuring within a fantastic world. First published in 1974, DnD (also known as D&D) remains the best-known and best-selling tabletop RPG.

To play, a number of players (usually three to five) sit down together and create player characters (PCs). These characters act as the players' in-game avatars, who begin journeying (via spoken word) through a world created by the game's Dungeon Master (DM). Together, the players and their Dungeon Master craft a story in which the players' characters either overcome or are defeated by the challenges the Dungeon Master has created.

Dungeons & Dragons has endured a number of highs and lows throughout its history. In the 1980s, the so-called "Satanic Panic" saw parents attempting to link the game to devil worship and Satanism. However, the game's reputation recovered from these accusations, and in the late 2010s and early 2020s, D&D gained in popularity thanks to its appearance in the Netflix show Stranger Things and the rise of actual play podcasts and videos. Due to its increased pop culture profile and the proliferation of online D&D-playing tools, such as Roll20.net and DnDBeyond.com, Dungeons & Dragons may be more popular now than it has ever been.

❓Example
Sorry, I can't make it to mini-golf Weds. That's my DnD night.

🔘 Buzzkill

What is a buzzkill?

◻️Something that spoils a good mood

Buzzkill is when something abruptly ruins the good mood or vibe others are experiencing. For example, if a group of friends is having fun hanging out, and one of the friends reminds everyone that every heartbeat brings them closer to death, the friends might say, "Thanks for the buzzkill, Todd."

The term is well known, with people using it in just about every context, including in person, in messages, and online. Even if accidental, buzzkills are always a bummer and may come in various shapes and sizes. For example, an insult, a revealed secret, the arrival of a guest, or lousy weather all qualify as buzzkills.

Origin of buzzkill

It is unclear who first coined the slang term "buzzkill." But the word dates back to the early 1990s (at least) and comes from the purposeful or accidental killing of a high (often referred to as a "buzz").

❓Example
Who invited Jeff to the party?
IDK, but he's the biggest buzzkill.

🔘 Manspreader

What does manspreader mean?

◻️A guy who sits with his legs spread wide

A manspreader is a male who sits with his legs spread in a very wide stance. He is commonly seen on a subway, bus, airplane, and park bench.

Manspreaders may sound harmless but can wreak havoc in many ways. One of the biggest negatives of a manspreader is when space is at a premium, such as a busy restaurant or subway car, and his wide stance prevents others from sitting down. Public campaigns have been launched to increase awareness of this epidemic but many men have staunchly defended their position citing male biological reasons.

❓Example

🔘 Poser

What does poser mean?

◻️A person who pretends to be someone they are not

A poser is a person who tries to fit into a group of people not because they actually like them but because they just want to be accepted into the group. Posers are most common in middle and high school when kids are searching for their identity and want to be accepted.

Posers try to integrate into a group of friends by learning the lingo, wearing specific types of clothing, and changing their mannerisms. Some examples of groups of people posers try to appear as are jocks, goth punks, skaters, theater kids, and brainiacs.

The term is typically seen as negative since it is used to call out people who "talk the talk," but don't necessarily "walk the walk." Most people can detect a poser trying to fit in so it's better to just be yourself, instead of pretend to be someone you are not.

❓Example
That guy looks like he's never even been on a skateboard, what a poser.

🔘 Clout Chaser

What is a clout chaser?

◻️A person who does things just to become popular

A clout chaser is someone who does and says things for the purpose of becoming more popular. It is primarily used in reference to people on social media that are desperate to gain fame and followers.

The term became popular in 2016 as a way to call out "fake" people who pretend to be something they are not so they can get more attention. While it originated within the hip-hop music industry, it has since become most prevalent on social media sites, like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat.

On social media, clout chasers might share photos to promote their fake lifestyle. Or they may pretend to be someone else to become friends with a famous person that has more clout.

There has been some criticism of the term since people have begun calling anyone who wants to be successful a clout chaser. The difference between people that just want to be successful and clout chasers is that clout chasers are willing to give up their identity and be fake just to get fame.

❓Example
Wow, she just posted a cray thirst trap.
OMG, she's such a clout chaser.
