๐ท๐บ Russian Forces Advance in Kharkov and DNR
Settlements Liberated: Russian forces took control of Shiykovka, Novy Mir, Cherneshchina, Druzholyubovka (Kharkov region) and Vasilevka (DNR).
Night Attack Repelled: On the night of July 4, air defenses intercepted over 500 aerial targets, including up to 10 Flamingo cruise missiles. All missiles were shot down after flying a significant distance.
Zelensky's Motive: The strike aimed to distract from the aftermath of Russia's July 2 strike and the failure in Konstantinovka. Russia warns of retaliation for any attacks on civilian objects.
June Totals: Approximately 13,000 aerial targets manufactured in European countries were destroyed in June.

Quran diplomacy: Iran's messaging at Khamenei's funeral
On 3 July, as foreign delegations filed past Ayatollah Khamenei's casket at Tehran's Grand Mosalla, each was greeted with a Quranic recitation: scripture selected from the Quran's 6,236 verses.
I compiled every recitation I could identify from footage. Was Iran sending messages, or was this just funeral liturgy?
The honest answer is neither. The in-between is more interesting. This was not a funeral liturgy. It was a war liturgy.
Standard funeral verses like "O tranquil soul, return to your Lord" appear only rarely. The bulk came from a curated pool of martial passages: Surah Al-Fath ("The Victory"), the battle sections of Ali 'Imran, and An-Nisa's verses on fighting, steadfastness and the folly of obeying disbelievers. Verses recur across unrelated delegations: one shared by Serbia and China, another by Bangladesh, Hamas and the D-8. This was a finite pool of two dozen wartime passages, and the pool itself was the message: Iran frames Khamenei's death as martyrdom in an ongoing, winnable war.
But within that pool, a few selections were unmistakably aimed.
Saudi Arabia received Ali 'Imran 3:13: two armies meet in battle, one fighting for Allah, the other in disbelief, the believers outnumbered yet divinely supported. It ends with "surely in this is a lesson for people of insight." To a kingdom that publicly closed its airspace while its crown prince reportedly urged Trump privately to continue the war, it sorts the room into God's party and the other, then says: take the lesson.
Lebanon's delegation heard An-Nisa 4:66: had God commanded them to sacrifice themselves, "they would not have done it, except a few of them." To a government that outlawed Hezbollah's military wing and signed a US-brokered disarmament framework days earlier, this is a eulogy of the "few" who fought, delivered to the face of the state trying to disarm them.
Georgia, whose president attended in person amid its rupture with the West, heard: "If you obey the disbelievers, they will turn you back on your heels... but Allah is your protector." Encouragement to a state mid-pivot.
Pakistan, the war's indispensable mediator whose capital names the June memorandum underpinning US-Iran talks, received a prayer: "Grant me an honourable entrance and an honourable exit, and give me a supporting authority from Yourself." Iran entered this war and is trying to exit it through Islamabad. This is close to a public thank-you note. A second Pakistani delegation, with the army chief, heard the verse commanding soldiers to hold their posts.
Russia, which sent Medvedev rather than Putin, heard Al-Qasas 28:83: the eternal home is for those who seek neither highness nor corruption on earth. Moscow sells Iran plenty (Su-35s, air defences, missile technology), yet when the bombs fell, Iran's paid-for jets sat finished in Russia awaiting delivery, the partnership treaty carried no defence clause, and Putin's oil windfall grew with every strike. Read one way the verse condemns America in Moscow's presence; read another, it reminds a partner that sells everything and risks nothing where the outcome lies. The ambiguity may be the point.
And the OIC, whose response to a member's decapitation was communiquรฉs, heard: "Whoever turns away, We have not sent you as a keeper over them." A washing of hands.
By contrast Egypt, which kept real distance from the war, received the ceremony's gentlest, most purely paradisal verse. Cairo got warmth; Riyadh got warning.
Bottom line: most delegations drew stock verses from a defiant rotation. But precisely where Iran had something specific and unsayable to communicate (reproach to Riyadh, grief and warning to Beirut, encouragement to Tbilisi, gratitude to Islamabad, contempt for the OIC), the verse fit far too well for chance. Whoever built this program composed a war liturgy for everyone, then reached into it with intent for the delegations that mattered.

๐ฉ๐ช Germany summons Chinese ambassador over reports of Russian military training
Germany held urgent talks with the Chinese ambassador after reports that Beijing may have trained Russian military personnel, a German Foreign Ministry spokesman said. China allegedly secretly trained Russian soldiers last year with the personal approval of the Russian defense leadership. The Chinese side previously dismissed these accusations as baseless. The German Foreign Ministry stated that any assistance enabling Russia to continue the war against Ukraine threatens Europe's security. China's growing support for Moscow directly affects Germany's security.
Revanchism warning
Outrage over Western support for Ukrainian fascists: the world sees Russia's restraint in Ukraine and thinks it will be the same everywhere. It won't. We must unite and break the enemy's back.
