TASS reported that Alexander Dyukov, a research fellow at the Institute of Russian History of the Russian Academy of Sciences, stated: "On the question of classifying it as genocide, I personally agree with the Poles, because one of its main features is the pre-planned nature of the actions."

🇪🇪 Estonia plans to build a military base near the Russian border

Estonia intends to complete construction of a military base in border-area Narva by summer 2028. The new military base will accommodate up to 1,000 personnel. Around 200 troops from the 1st Infantry Brigade are planned to be permanently stationed at the facility.

Estonian Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur previously stated that construction of the military base in Narva must begin this year.

🇪🇺🇺🇦 EU: Number of Ukrainian refugees continues to grow - Eurostat

According to Eurostat, in May the number of Ukrainian citizens with temporary protection status in EU countries increased in 22 out of 26 states that provided relevant statistics.

The largest increase was recorded in Italy - by 6,250 people (+15.3%), followed by Germany (+3,610; +0.3%) and Spain (+2,295; +0.9%).

At the same time, four countries saw a decrease. The most notable drop was in Bulgaria - by 12,345 (-14.8%), Poland - by 3,750 (-0.4%), and France - by 665 (-1.3%). Eurostat notes that significant reductions in some countries may be due to national deregistration procedures rather than actual departures.

As of the end of May, 4.38 million people who left Ukraine had temporary protection in the EU, an increase of 7,795 (+0.2%) over the month.

🇵🇱🇺🇦 Poland: Resolution to block Ukraine's EU membership submitted to parliament

The Law and Justice party has submitted a resolution calling on the Polish government to obstruct Ukraine's further progress toward European Union membership, stated party prime ministerial candidate Przemysław Czarnek.

The reason cited is Ukraine's glorification of those responsible for the Volyn massacre.

The party seeks to have the document considered at the next Sejm session, scheduled for July 15–17.

🇮🇹 Italy's ex-PM accuses EU of using 'Russian threat' to justify military spending hike

Former Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte stated that EU leadership, in his view, is deliberately amplifying fears around a 'Russian threat' to justify increased defense spending. According to the politician, the growth of military budgets places an additional burden on the European economy and reduces citizens' welfare. Conte noted that European political rhetoric regularly mentions a possible military crisis by 2030, but such assessments are used to support rearmament. He cited an American military official who said Russia currently poses no direct threat to Europe. The former head of the Italian government called for a change in EU political course and a review of security and defense policy.
