PATHETIC: The New York City Rent Guidelines Board voted 7-1 to FREEZE RENTS for the next two years on nearly one million rent-stabilized apartments. The freeze takes effect for leases starting October 1, 2026.
Fox News: “[The rent freeze applies] to one- and two-year leases. This is the first time EVER that the city has frozen two-year leases for rent-stabilized apartments.”
“There are concerns this could be part of the larger plan to turn rent-stabilized buildings into government-owned housing.”
The decision fulfills a major campaign promise from Democratic Socialist Mayor Zohran Mamdani.
