About Triton Island:

🔹 Strategic Importance: Positioned in a highly contested area, claimed by China, Vietnam, and Taiwan
🔹 Territorial Disputes: Triton Island is claimed by China, Vietnam, and Taiwan, each asserting sovereignty over the Paracel Islands. China has controlled the island since 1974 but its ownership is contested, contributing to regional tensions in the South China Sea.
🔹 Strategic Importance:
- Located along vital international shipping routes, giving it significant strategic importance.
- The island’s surrounding waters are rich in natural resources and support diverse marine life.

🔹 Established: 1996 under the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT), though the treaty is not yet in force.

🔹 Headquarters: Vienna, Austria

🔹 Key Components:
1. International Monitoring System (IMS): A global network of monitoring stations and laboratories to detect nuclear explosions through various technologies.
2. On-Site Inspections (OSI): In the event of suspicious activity, the CTBTO can conduct on-site inspections to verify compliance, once the treaty is in force.
3. International Data Centre (IDC): Analyzes data from monitoring stations and distributes it to member states.

🔹 Status of the Treaty: The treaty ratification from 44 specific nuclear-capable countries to enter into force. As of now, eight key nations (including the U.S., China, India, Pakistan) have not ratified it.

🌐 Asset Recovery Interagency Network Asia Pacific (ARIN-AP) 🌐

🔹 In news : India, represented by the Directorate of Enforcement (ED), has been included in the Steering Committee of the ARIN-AP.

🔹 Structure: ARIN-AP consists of national contact points designated by each member country in the Asia-Pacific region. These contact points are interconnected through the Secretariat, which is located at the South Korean Supreme Prosecutors' Office.

🔹 Membership:
- Members: Currently, there are 28 member jurisdictions, including India.
- Purpose: Facilitates cooperation and asset recovery across borders to combat transnational crime, money laundering, and corruption.

🔹 Functions:
1. Information Sharing: Provides a network for real-time communication among members.
3. Capacity Building: Conducts workshops and seminars to enhance regional expertise in asset recovery.
