陳沛然醫生統計了2020年以來新冠肺炎的死亡數字，總括來說，第一波至第五波確診人數合共為40700人，共259人死亡，死亡率為0.64%；至於第五波疫情截至2月18日，共有28069人染疫，共46人死亡，死亡率目前為0.16%，比過往幾次的死亡率低。

需要注意的是，科學上我們需要調整年齡和病人的背景疾病來解釋以上數據，例如在年紀大的病人群組會比較多人打科興，或會否增加科興疫苗的患病死亡個案。
