Brits are caught up in terrifying night of violence as French music festival descends into stabbings and rapes with multiple women stabbed with syringes

More than 240 people were arrested, two people stabbed, and others raped, as France's biggest open air music festival descended into intense violence.

The 40-year-old man and woman, who have not been named, were attacked in the early hours of Monday at the Fête de la Musique – a nationwide 'street party' attended by thousands of British people.

Police also reported two alleged rapes, multiple other sexual assaults, muggings, and girls being stabbed with syringes, on a night of anarchy.

Thousands of Brazilians in a number of states were shocked and puzzled by emergency alerts sent to their cell phones in the middle of the night, some containing gibberish while others warned them to brace for an imminent alien attack.

The false alarms were sent between Friday night and early Saturday morning through Brazil’s Civil Defense Alert platform, a system normally reserved for serious warnings about floods, landslides, storms, and other emergencies.

People in several cities were awakened by ‘extreme alert’ notifications containing the word ‘misanthropy’ – meaning hatred or distrust of humanity – while others received messages that sounded less like public safety advice and more like the opening scene of a low-budget sci-fi film.

Ford has filed patent applications for technology that could allow vehicles to detect driving behavior, collect data, and potentially share information with law enforcement systems. While a patent does not mean the feature is definitely coming to consumer vehicles in 2026, the filings have raised major concerns about privacy, surveillance, and how much data modern cars may collect.

The UK is moving forward with a social media ban for children under 16, but the changes affect far more than kids.

To enforce the ban, platforms will have to verify users' ages. While officials haven't confirmed exactly how, facial scans, digital IDs, and other age verification schemes are all on the table. The government is also researching ways to prevent people from bypassing the rules with VPNs.

Meanwhile, Canada's Bill C-22 would expand police powers by allowing warrantless access to subscriber information and could require service providers to build the capability to hand over data or intercept communications. Companies may even be forced to retain data they would normally delete and keep government orders secret.

According to new University of Newcastle research, up to 85% of children younger than 16 have reported using social media after the ban came into force.
The prohibition has failed.
Instead of admitting defeat and sensibly doing what they can to inform and empower parents to manage their own children’s access to social media, the government’s answer is.... bigger fines of up to $99,000,000, and more power for Julie Inman Grant, the eSafety Commissioner.
Under proposed changes, the Commissioner would be able to force social platforms to provide evidence they are doing what they can to block anyone younger than 16 from creating an account. The new powers would extend to third parties, such as age assurance providers and app-stores.
