The company & Pentagon have been in contract talks for weeks, but the discussions broke down.
Anthropic asked for written assurances that its models would never be used for mass domestic surveillance of American citizens or autonomous weapons deployment. The Pentagon said they would never allow any vendor to dictate terms.
Then, the Pentagon deemed Anthropic a risk to the U.S. supply chain, a classification typically reserved for adversarial foreign entities.
Anthropic is now severely restricted. This situation exposes the fear of who is controlling these systems and who is dictating terms.
