After the battle of Lewisburg, the Yankees would not allow locals to bury the Southern dead. They were laid out to rot at the Old Stone church and eventually thrown in a trench at the south wall of the church. It wasnโt until after the war that the remains of 95 unknown Confederate soldiers were finally exhumed and reburied in this cross-shaped mass grave.

Thoughts that thousands of men throughout the South must have shared ---
"A dreadful war having sprung up between the North and South, the North having marshalled their thousands to invade and lay waste our beautiful land, subjugate the people and rule with a rod of iron. After mature deliberation and much prayer, I felt it to be my duty to give my assistance to the country where I had been nurtured and where the bones of my ancestors reposed. I felt that I had no right to enjoy the blessing purchased by others. I could not enjoy the comforts of home while my brothers were toiling for me. I would be unworthy the mother who bore me and taught me lessons of honor and patriotism. Unworthy the ancestors who fought and died for liberty did I remain at home." -- Thomas Hopkins Deavenport, Company H, 3rd Tennessee Infantry

๐จ The Trump administration has removed language from a Defense Department website and physical marker that criticized the Confederate Memorial formerly located at Arlington National Cemetery.
The deleted wording described the monument as presenting a nostalgic, sanitized version of the Confederacy and slavery. Critics are calling the change an effort to rewrite history. They forget to mention that these plaques were โrewrittenโ during the Biden administration.
Thereโs a fairer way to frame it: history should explain what happened, not tell visitors what political conclusion theyโre required to reach.
Keep the facts. Keep the context. Drop the activist editorializing. A national cemetery should commemorate the dead and present history accurately โ not read like a graduate seminar in ideological interpretation.
Thank you, President Trump for fixing the Biden administrationโs mess. We look forward to the return of the carefully restored monument next year!

Good night to everyone except those who hate Robert E Lee, Stonewall Jackson, and the Dukes of Hazzard.

Comparing Confederate soldiers or their descendants to Nazis is ludicrous. The grandsons of the men we honor defeated the Nazi army, many of them carrying the flags of their grandfathers with them overseas. #HeritageOfDuty #HeritageOfHonor
