Gasoline prices jumped 9.1% in September, while fuel oil, including diesel, surged 15.3%.

AI BOOM FUELS SHARPEST COMPUTER PRICE INFLATION IN TWO DECADES
The massive AI infrastructure buildout is coinciding with a sharp rise in consumer technology prices, adding another source of pressure to U.S. inflation.
According to September CPI data:
πΈ Computers, peripherals and smart-home assistants: +9.7% YoY, the largest annual increase since at least 2006.
πΈ Software and accessories: +28.4% YoY.
The figures highlight growing concerns that surging demand for AI computing power and hardware could be pushing technology costs higher.
The key risk: AI investment may be creating inflationary pressures beyond energy and housing, complicating the Federal Reserve's efforts to bring inflation back to its 2% target.

U.S. INFLATION STAYS ABOVE FED TARGET FOR 66 STRAIGHT MONTHS
September CPI rose 3.7% YoY, exceeding expectations and extending inflation's streak above the Fed's 2% target to 66 consecutive months β more than five years.
According to Bespoke Investment Group, this marks only the third period in the past century when U.S. inflation has remained above 2% for at least five years.
Persistent inflation continues to complicate the Fed's path toward lower interest rates.

WALL STREET SET TO RAISE CORE PCE INFLATION FORECASTS AFTER HOT CPI REPORT
September's stronger-than-expected CPI data could push core PCE inflation estimates to at least 0.3% MoM, up from the previous 0.21% consensus.
TD Securities has already raised its forecast to 0.36% from 0.23%.
Higher-than-expected prices across housing, apparel, education, vehicles and recreation are driving the revisions.
The key risk: The Fed's preferred inflation gauge may come in significantly hotter than previously expected, complicating the case for further rate cuts.
Thursday's PPI report will help refine the estimates.
