FOMC MINUTES IN FOCUS AS OCTOBER HIKE ODDS FADE

Todayโ€™s FOMC minutes will be scrutinized for how firmly officials backed further rate hikes after Septemberโ€™s unanimous 25bp increase.

October hike odds have fallen to around 20% from 55% after softer inflation and payroll data, but Septemberโ€™s dot plot showed 14 of 18 officials still expected another 25โ€“50bp of tightening by end-2027.

Key focus: whether officials view current policy as sufficiently restrictive and how quickly they expect further hikes.

FRANCE CONSIDERS SHIFT TO SHORTER-TERM DEBT AMID BOND SELLOFF

France is considering issuing more shorter-maturity debt as investors grow increasingly reluctant to hold longer-term French bonds, Finance Minister Roland Lescure told WSJ.

Franceโ€™s 10-year yield rose to 4.91%, versus 3.61% for the 2-year, steepening the curve to roughly 130bp.

Lescure said demand for 10-year debt remains solid, but 30-year issuance is โ€œa bit trickierโ€ amid fiscal and political concerns.

SMALL MORTGAGES ARE DISAPPEARING ACROSS THE U.S.

Mortgages of $100,000 or less accounted for less than 3% of U.S. home loans in 2025-26, down from more than 12% in 2013-14, according to Realtor

The decline reflects fewer low-priced homes and persistent barriers to issuing smaller loans, limiting financing options for lower-cost buyers.

The median 2026 purchase price for homes financed with small mortgages was $109,681.
