BOFA: U.S. TREASURY YIELDS MAY NEED TO HIT 6% TO DERAIL STOCK RALLY

Bank of America's latest fund manager survey finds that 10-year Treasury yields would need to approach 6% before investors meaningfully shift money from stocks into bonds.

Key findings:

🔸 76% expect the Fed to hold rates steady in October.
🔸 Technology exposure is the highest since August 2020.
🔸 Consumer discretionary exposure is the lowest since July 2008.
🔸 Long semiconductors remains the most crowded trade.
🔸 Biggest market risks: A disorderly bond yield surge and an AI bubble.

Investors are reducing exposure to banks and U.S. stocks, while increasing allocations to bonds, utilities, Japan and the UK.

Bottom line: Equity sentiment remains resilient, but rising yields and AI-related risks are becoming major concerns.

FED'S GOOLSBEE WARNS AI BOOM COULD FUEL BROADER U.S. INFLATION

Chicago Fed President Austan Goolsbee warns that AI-driven price pressures are spreading beyond data centers, raising concerns about overheating in the U.S. economy.

Surging demand for electricity, construction, land and equipment is pushing up costs across other industries.

Goolsbee cautioned that persistent inflation could force the Fed to maintain tighter monetary policy or raise rates further.

“I'm getting increasingly nervous that that's just straight, old-fashioned overheating demand.”

FED'S WALLER: SURGING U.S. BOND YIELDS DRIVEN BY GROWTH, NOT INFLATION

Fed Governor Christopher Waller says strong economic growth and AI investment are pushing Treasury yields higher, while inflation expectations remain anchored.

He warns that weaker safe-haven demand for U.S. debt could be adding 50–70 basis points to yields.

Waller expects the AI investment boom to continue for another 2–3 years.

U.S. ALCOHOL CONSUMPTION HITS RECORD LOW AS DRINKING HABITS SHIFT

Americans are drinking less alcohol than ever recorded, according to Gallup, despite the country becoming less religious.

The biggest declines are among Catholics, nonreligious Americans and infrequent churchgoers — groups historically more likely to drink.

Meanwhile, concerns about alcohol's health risks are rising across all religious groups.

Gallup suggests changing health attitudes, rather than religion, may be driving the nationwide decline.
