U.S. MORTGAGE RATES HOLD AT 7.4% AFTER SEVEN WEEKS OF INCREASES

The average 30-year fixed mortgage rate remained at 7.4%, ending seven consecutive weeks of increases.

Rates have climbed sharply from 6.65% in August, putting additional pressure on an already struggling housing market.

Meanwhile, mortgage applications fell 2.7%, marking their sixth straight weekly decline.

The key concern: Elevated borrowing costs and near-record home prices continue to discourage buyers.

ANTHROPIC'S SLOWING REVENUE GROWTH DOES NOT SIGNAL WEAKER AI DEMAND

D.A. Davidson analysts Gil Luria and Turner Dischinger say Anthropic's slowing revenue growth should not be interpreted as a broader AI demand slowdown.

They point to growing competition from OpenAI and open-weight AI models, as businesses diversify their AI spending.

The key takeaway: Overall AI investment remains on a strong upward trajectory, supporting continued demand for computing power and data center construction.

ANTHROPIC’S IPO VALUATION EXPECTATIONS DROP FROM $2 TRILLION TO $1.5 TRILLION

Some investors are considering a $1.5 trillion valuation for Anthropic’s upcoming IPO, down 25% from earlier expectations of $2 trillion.

Anthropic reported $16.8 billion in Q3 revenue, up 45% quarter-over-quarter, but growth slowed sharply after revenue more than doubled in Q2.

The company also reported adjusted profitability for the quarter.

The key concern: Slowing revenue growth and rising AI infrastructure costs could weigh on one of the most anticipated IPOs.

FED’S HAMMACK WARNS MORE AGGRESSIVE ACTION MAY BE NEEDED TO FIGHT INFLATION

Cleveland Fed President Beth Hammack warned that deteriorating inflation expectations could force the Federal Reserve to take more aggressive monetary policy action.

Speaking at a Goldman Sachs event in New York, Hammack said persistent price pressures could become harder to control if consumers and businesses begin expecting inflation to remain elevated.

The key takeaway: A sustained rise in inflation expectations could require a stronger Fed response, increasing the risk of tighter monetary policy.

BOFA'S HARTNETT WARNS OF MARKET RISK-OFF PERIOD AHEAD

Bank of America's Michael Hartnett expects investors to reduce risk over the next 3–4 weeks, citing 3% real yields, persistent inflation, AI valuation concerns and U.S. midterm election uncertainty.

Hartnett expects an October Fed rate hike, despite markets increasingly pricing in a pause.

His preferred sectors include small caps, REITs and consumer discretionary, while avoiding additional technology exposure.

The key takeaway: Higher yields and political uncertainty could pressure risk assets in the near term.
