BITCOIN FACES SELLING PRESSURE AS LONG-TERM HOLDERS SIT ON LOSSES

Long-term Bitcoin holders own approximately 4 million BTC purchased between $85,000 and $118,000, according to Glassnode analysts.

With Bitcoin trading near $80,000, more than half of long-term holders' coins were reportedly acquired above current prices.

Glassnode warns that a recovery toward $85,000 could trigger selling from investors seeking to break even. Meanwhile, Bitcoin ETF demand has weakened, although losses realized during successive price declines have become smaller.

FED EXPECTED TO HOLD RATES AS WALL STREET WATCHES HAWKISH SIGNALS

The Federal Reserve is widely expected to leave interest rates unchanged at 3.75%–4.00%, with markets focused on potential dissent and changes to the FOMC statement.

Analysts anticipate two or three officials could favor a rate hike, including Beth Hammack and Lorie Logan, with Neel Kashkari or Christopher Waller also possible.

Goldman Sachs, Deutsche Bank, JPMorgan, Morgan Stanley and UBS expect possible revisions to language emphasizing a timelier return to the 2% inflation target.

Governor Lisa Cook and Cleveland Fed President Beth Hammack dissented, favoring a 25-basis-point rate increase.

The Fed described economic growth as strong, supported by robust capital investment, productivity gains and resilient consumer spending.

However, inflation remains elevated, and policymakers emphasized that additional economic data will help determine the appropriate path for interest rates.

FED GOVERNOR LISA COOK SURPRISES MARKETS WITH VOTE FOR RATE HIKE

Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook unexpectedly voted for a 25-basis-point rate hike, breaking with the Fed's decision to hold rates at 3.75%–4.00%.

Cook joined Cleveland Fed President Beth Hammack, a consistent advocate of tighter monetary policy, in the 10–2 vote.

The dissent marks Cook's first vote against an interest-rate decision since joining the Fed in 2022.

It also comes as President Trump makes a second attempt to remove Cook from the Fed's board, following an earlier effort blocked by the Supreme Court.

FITCH WARNS AI BOOM AND RISING YIELDS THREATEN GLOBAL MARKETS

Fitch Ratings warns that global credit risks are deteriorating heading into 2027, citing AI investment uncertainty, elevated energy prices and tighter financing conditions.

Fitch forecasts the Fed policy rate reaching 4.25% and remaining there through 2027, with one additional hike expected this year.

The agency projects the US 10-year Treasury yield at 4.8% by end-2027, but warns that prolonged disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz could push yields higher.

Fitch also highlights the risk that AI infrastructure spending may exceed sustainable demand, potentially triggering a sharp pullback in investment.
