Iran makes first import order worth $10 mn using cryptocurrency

Iran has registered its first official order for importing $10 million worth of goods in cryptocurrency this week, the semi-official Tasnim agency reported on Tuesday quoting an official from the Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade.

"This week, the first official import order registration worth 10 million dollars was successfully completed using cryptocurrency. By the end of September, the use of cryptocurrencies and smart contracts will be widely used in foreign trade with target countries," Alireza Peymanpak said.

Binance Will Support Ethereum Merge, Consider Fork Tokens

Binance has said it is "closely monitoring" Ethereum's upcoming "Merge" event and plans to assess potential fork tokens based on the support they receive.

With Ethereum's move to Proof-of-Stake drawing nearer, some community members are planning to fork the blockchain to preserve a Proof-of-Work network.

Ethereum is expected to ship the Merge in mid-September, but the date has not yet been finalized.

CryptoPunks Trading Volume Soars 25% Overnight

Data from popular DApp resource DappRadar reveals that the interest in the CryptoPunks NFT collection is soaring over the past couple of days. The total trading volume for the collection soared by about 25% over the past 24 hours, representing a solid $1.7 million of NFTs traded.

This culminated in a total of 10 trades. Even though the number might not sound significant, it’s worth noting that the floor price for CryptoPunks at the time of this writing is about 75 ETH. The average price of each trade was about 100 ETH at the time of this writing.

The most expensive punk sold over the past 24 hours was worth $340,000 or about 200 ETH. It was punk #8576

Tornado Cash Suspected Developer Collared By Dutch Authorities

Authorities in the Netherlands apprehended a man suspected to be a Tornado Cash developer in Amsterdam on Wednesday. The Fiscal Information and Investigation Service said that the unidentified 29-year-old man was reportedly involved in money laundering via the decentralized Ethereum mixer Tornado Cash.

In the Netherlands, FIOD is the body in charge of investigating financial fraud and other connected offences. FIOD initiated its investigation in June, although multiple arrests cannot be ruled out. The investigation is spearheaded by the Public Prosecutor’s Office that is in charge of serious fraud, environmental crime and asset seizure.

The suspect will appear before an investigating court in Den Bosch on Friday, according to the FIOD.

DeFi Protocol Acala Network Hacked of 1.2B AUSD Stablecoin

The decentralized hub of the Polkadot network suffered a security breach, which led to the unrooting of the stablecoin AUSD

Acala, the decentralized hub of the Polkadot network, has suffered a major security breach, prompting him to pass an urgent vote to suspend operations. The project team is currently working to investigate and mitigate the issue.

The hack was allegedly caused by a bug in the iBTC/AUSD pool. The security breach allowed the attacker to issue an additional 1.2 billion Acala Dollar (AUSD) tokens.

The attacker’s wallet contains 785,938 AUSD tokens at press time.

Indian Finance Minister Asks Crypto Investors to Exercise Caution as Authorities Investigate Exchanges

Indian Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman reportedly warned about cryptocurrency Saturday at an event organized by the BJP Economic Cell. She cautioned the public and entrepreneurs that cryptocurrency is not currency, stating:

"The government has already warned. I think all of us will have to share our thoughts and move with a bit of caution on this."

Her statements came as India’s Enforcement Directorate (ED) probes cryptocurrency exchanges in relation to its money-laundering investigations. The law enforcement agency has frozen the assets of at least two cryptocurrency exchanges this month. Wazirx‘s bank assets worth $8 million were frozen on Aug. 5 and Vauld‘s bank and crypto assets worth about $46 million were frozen last week.

The Houston Texans NFL team has partnered with BitWallet to become the team’s official digital currency wallet, per a press release.

Fans of the NFL team will be able to use bitcoin to purchase single game suites using BitWallet as the intermediary to facilitate the conversion of bitcoin to fiat upon purchase. In fact, the Houstons have already sold its first suite to EWR Digital, a digital marketing firm.

British Fintech Revolut Granted Crypto License in Cyprus

A leader in the neobank sector, Revolut, has received approval from the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC) to operate with cryptocurrencies and other digital assets. The company plans to establish a cryptocurrency hub on the island that will allow it to offer additional services to its 17 million European customers under the EU’s upcoming regulations.

CySEC’s approval comes after Revolut obtained similar authorizations in other markets, such as Spain and Singapore, the Cyprus Mail noted in a report. These licenses will enable the London-headquartered fintech to expand its sales in a number of jurisdictions. The platform will continue to serve its British clients, who form the bulk of its customer base, through its U.K.-registered entity.
