Your Smart TV is Spying On You

A hidden feature called "Automatic Content Recognition (ACR)" in Smart TVs captures screenshots of whatever is being displayed, at regular intervals. It is also used to identify your entire viewing behaviour. The data even includes TV Model, a unique device ID, IP address and HDMI Input.

Samsung takes a screenshot every minute and LG takes a screenshot every 15 seconds. Vizio has earned $598M (2023) and LG has earned $750M (2024) from Ads and Data.

To disable ACR:
Samsung TV: Menu - Settings - General & Privacy - Terms & Privacy - Uncheck "Viewing Information Services"
LG TV: Settings - General-  System - Additional Settings - Turn Off "Live Plus"
Sony TV: Settings - All Settings - Disable "Samba Interactive TV"
Roku, TCL, Hisense, Philips, Insignia, Onn, Sharp & more TVs: Settings - Privacy - Smart TV Experience - Uncheck "Use Info from TV Inputs"
Xiaomi TV with FireTV OS: Settings - Preferences - Turn off "Automatic Content Recognition"

Windows Updates can now be paused for up to 35 days (and more)

You can now pause Windows Updates for up to 35 days, which can be extended again and again without any limits. Technically, indefinitely? I guess.

The Power menu will now always show the normal Restart and Shut down, so you can reboot or power off without installing pending updates.

Driver, .NET and firmware updates are now being coordinated with the monthly quality update, reducing update experience to a single monthly restart. Driver updates will now also list the device class (audio, battery, etc.). You can now also skip updates immediately during OOBE.

Gmail stays similar while Calendar returns to the older icon design. Tasks has the same tick, and Voice remains similar as well.

Forms still has the purple color, while Sites switches from a dark blue to a lighter one.

Canva's spokesperson said:
We became aware of an issue with our Magic Layers feature and moved quickly to investigate and fix it. We take reports like this very seriously, and we're putting additional checks in place to help prevent this in future. We're sorry for any distress this may have caused.

Here's our first "agentic homescreen" for iPhone

Skye AI is an "agentic homescreen" using iOS Widgets, aiming to replace how people use applications.

It will offer insights about your local weather, your current context, your health, draft email replies, help you with your meeting prep, send reminders, flag suspicious charges in your bank accounts, and more.

Sounds like AI slop data harvesting bullshit to me, but sure, someone's already ahead of OpenAI.

FRIENDSTER IS BACK, ARE WE FEELING OLD YET?

The legendary social networking platform Friendster, launched back in 2003 has returned from its almost a decade long 'hiatus' after its shutdown in 2018 to bring the service to a brand new and younger audience, as well as those who have spent years of their lives on the platform.

Friendster now flaunts itself as a 'slow moving' social media service focused on creating deep connections over algorithm driven contents on every scroll made. It is currently available only on iOS, with no announcement for Android or anywhere else yet.

With it's biggest change yet, Friendster emphasizes real-world connections, which means that the people on your friend list are people you've actually met in person, and have added by physically touching your phones together.
