A Mountain of Gold

Imam Abu'l Hajjaj al-Makki (rahimahullah)

Mujahid ibn Jabr (rahimahullah) said:

If you spend as much as (the weight of) Abi Qubays (name of a mountain in Makkah) in obedience to Allah, then it's never excessive;

but if you spend even a small amount in disobedience towards Allah, then it's sheer profligacy.

Shaykh Abdur Rahman as-Sa’di (rahimahullah) said:

Whoever harms a Muslim (by word or deed, directly or indirectly behind their back),

Allah will harm him,

And whoever Allah harms

will be deprived of good and will face evil,

because of what his hands have earned.

Charity repels calamities:

Charity protects the person as stated in the Hadith

Doing good (to the people) protects one from misfortunes, secret charity extinguishes the anger of the Lord, and keeping ties with kinship increases one’s life span.

[at-Tabaraani, al-Albaani (rahimahullah) classified it as hasan (good)]
Salaat al-Kusoof — The Eclipse Prayer

The way in which Salaat al-Kusoof is done is to pray two Rak’ahs in which Qur’aan is recited aloud, according to the correct one out of the two scholarly opinions.

In the first Rak’ah, one should recite al-Faatihah and a long soorah such as Soorat al-Baqarah or the equivalent, then do a long rukoo’,

then raise one's head and say, “Sami’a Allaahu liman hamidah, Rabbanaa wa laka’l-hamd (Allaah listens to the one who praises Him; our Lord to You be praise)” after standing upright, as in other prayers.

Then one should (in continuation of first rakah), recite al-Faatihah and another long soorah, shorter than in the first recitation, equivalent in length to Soorat Aal ‘Imraan.

Then one should do another long rukoo’ shorter than the first, and when raising one's head, say, “Sami’a Allaahu liman hamidah, Rabbanaa wa laka’l-hamd hamdan katheeran tayyiban mubaarakan fih, mal’ al-samawaati wa mal’ al-ard wa mal’ ma shi’ta min shay’in ba’d (Allaah listens to the one who praises Him; our Lord to You be praise, much good and blessed praise, filling heaven and earth and whatever You will besides that).”

Then he should do two lengthy sujoods, without making the sitting between them too long.

Then one should pray the second rak’ah like the first, with two long rukoo’s and two long sujoods, as he did in the first rak’ah.

Then he should recite the Tashahhud and say the salaam.

It was narrated from Abu Hurayrah (RaḍiyAllāhu ʿanhu) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:

Every Muslim is sacred to his fellow Muslim: his blood, his property and his honour.

Ibn Daqeeq al-Eid (Rahimahullah) said in al-Iqtiraah (34):

Indulging in (maligning) the honour of the Muslims (by backbiting, slandering, carrying tales etc) is one of the ditches of Hell. End quote.

False Statements, False Accusations, False Testimonies

Narrated Abu Huraira (radiyAllahu ‘anhu),

The Prophet (sallAllahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said, "Whoever does not give up forged speech and evil actions, Allah is not in need of his leaving his food and drink (i.e. Allah will not accept his fasting.)"

[Sahih al-Bukhari, 1903]

False Testimony, False Witness

Abu Bakrah (radiyAllahu ‘anhu) reported:

The Messenger of Allah (sallAllahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said,

"Shall I not inform you of one of the gravest of the cardinal sins?"

We said: "Yes, O Messenger of Allah!"

He (sallAllahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said, "To join others as partners with Allah in worship and to be undutiful to one's parents."

The Messenger of Allah (sallAllahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) (then) sat up from his reclining position (in order to stress the importance of what he was going to say) and added, "I warn you making a false statement and giving a false testimony. I warn you against making a false statement and giving a false testimony." The Messenger of Allah (sallAllahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) kept on repeating this (warning) till we wished he should stop.

Verily, the most beloved to me are those of you with the best character, soft in nature, friendly and befriended.

The most hateful of you to Allah are those who spread gossip, who cause discord between loved ones and
seek misery for the innocent.

In another narration, the Prophet of Allah (ṣall Allahu ʿalayhi wa-’ālihi wa-sallam) said,

“Seeking misery and finding faults with the innocent.”

By the One in Whose Hand is my soul, (the delights and luxuries of) this world will come to you in plenty, and nothing will cause the heart of anyone of you to deviate except that. Giving Charity on Fridays

● Ka'b al-Ahbar (rahimahullah) said:

The sun has neither risen nor set on a day greater than the day of Friday,

and charity given on it is greater than on other days.

[Sahih Musannaf of 'Abd Ar-Razzaq (rahimahullah), 5558]

● al-A‘mash narrated from Mujahid, from ‘Abdullah ibn Damrah,

from Ka‘b (rahimahumullah) who said:

Charity is multiplied on Friday.

[Musannaf ibn Abi Shaybah, 2/57, no. 6, Maktabah Islamiyyah]

● Ibn al-Qayyim (rahimahullah) said:

Giving charity on Friday has a special merit compared to other days,

just as giving charity during the month of Ramadan has a higher merit compared to the rest of the year.

I witnessed Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (rahimahullah)

when he would go out for Jumuaah,

he would take whatever he found at home—be it bread or anything else—and give it as charity in secret on his way.

I heard him say:

“If Allah commanded us to give charity before consulting with the Messenger of Allah (sallAllahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) (58:12),

then giving charity before consulting with Allah is even more virtuous and deserving of merit.”

[Ibn al-Qayyim (rahimahullah), Zaad al-Maad, 1/399]

● Ibn al-Qayyim (rahimahullah) said:

If the one giving charity

knew

that his charity landed in the Hand of Allah,

before the hand of the poor person,

the pleasure of the giver would be greater than the pleasure of the receiver.

[Ibn ul-Qayyim (rahimahullah), paraphrased from al-Wabil al-Sayyib, al-Madarij as-Salikeen, 1/26]

Abu Huraira (radiyAllahu ‘anhu) reported Allah's Messenger (sallAllahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) as saying:

No one gives sadaqah (charity) of a date out of his honest earning, except that Allah accepts it with His Right Hand, and then fosters it as one of you fosters the colt or a young she-camel, till it becomes like a mountain or even greater.

[Sahih Muslim, 1014b, Book 12, Hadith 80]

Abdullah ibn Mas’ud (radiyallahu ‘anhu) said:

“Charity (sadaqah) reaches (lit. falls into) the Hand of Allah before it falls into the hand of the one who asks for it.” (i.e., Allah Ta’ala accepts it), he (radiyAllahu ‘anhu) then recited the Verse:

{(Do they not know that Allah) accepts repentance from His servants and takes their charities”}
— Surah Tawbah, 9:104

[Tafsir at-Tabari (rahimahullah); Jami’ul Bayan, Surah Tawbah, Verse: 104, vol. 11, pg. 666, see also: Majma az-Zawaid, vol. 3, pg. 111, Hadith: 4677]

Abu Hurairah (radiyAllahu ‘anhu) narrated that :

the Messenger of Allah (sallAllahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:

"Indeed Allah accepts charity, and He accepts it with His Right (Hand) to nurture it for one of you, just like one of you would nurture his foal, until the bite (of food) becomes as large as Uhud."

[Jami’ at-Tirmidhi 662, Chapter 28: What Has Been Related About the Virtue of Charity, Graded: Hasan Sahih]

Abdullah ibn Mas’ud (radiyAllahu ‘anhu):

"Indeed, charity* (sadaqah) reaches (lit. falls into) the Hand of Allah before it reaches the hand of the one who asks,"

then he recited:

{And He it is Who accepts repentance* from His servants}
— ash-Shura: 25, the verse.

Some of the Salaf (may Allah have mercy upon them) said,
