U.S. Attorney for NJ, Alina Habba, has opened an investigation into Governor Phil Murphy and AG Matt Platkin over claims that state law enforcement was ordered not to cooperate with federal immigration authorities (ICE).

This follows reports that police have been instructed to ignore federal detainer requests — part of NJ’s controversial Immigration Trust Directive, which limits local cooperation with ICE. The directive has been in place since 2018 and survived court challenges.

Habba called the policy a “threat to public safety” and warned that failure to cooperate with federal authorities could lead to state criminal charges.

A new bill to codify the policy into state law is still pending in the NJ legislature.

The District of New Jersey’s Fentanyl Precursor Interception (FPI) Strike Force will coordinate with The DEA in NJ to destroy the fentanyl supply chain, focusing on dismantling overseas chemical manufacturers from flooding our country with the precursors used to manufacture this deadly drug. Not surprising this includes shipments from China…among others.
