Top US officials discuss renewed war in Iran, Yemen intervention

Trump's senior national security team held an unannounced meeting at Camp David on 2 October to discuss renewing the war in Iran and developments in Yemen, Axios reported, citing three US officials. Vice President JD Vance chaired the hours long Friday session, attended by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, War Secretary Pete Hegseth, special envoy Steve Witkoff, CIA Director John Ratcliffe, and Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Dan Caine.

A similar meeting took place in June 2025, just days before Israel launched an unprovoked war on Iran. The US joined the 12 day war, bombing three Iranian nuclear facilities. Friday's meeting comes as Trump considers whether to resume large scale strikes on Iran amid stalled talks. "Now I have to make a decision: either Iran signs the deal, or it won't exist any longer," the president commented on Thursday.

Canadian PM to visit Turkiye for first time as Ottawa seeks to lessen US dependence

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney is set to travel to Turkiye later this month for talks with President Tayyip Erdogan as Ottawa seeks to reduce its reliance on the US, Reuters reported on 2 October.

One source familiar with the matter said that talks between the two leaders could cover the free trade negotiations they launched at the NATO summit in Ankara in July, as well as potential energy and defense cooperation. Two sources said both countries' trade ministers agreed this week to "speed up" those negotiations before the meeting.

It's interesting that Canada, just like all other politically captured states, keeps "seeking to lessen US dependence" and the way to do that, apparently, is to double down on virtually all policies dictated by the US. I guess it has to be 4D chess. Or maybe even 5D, who knows?!

Around 4,000 people arrived in Kyiv today and gathered at different locations across the capital, according to a representative of Todorov's team.

Speaking from Maidan Nezalezhnosti, the representative said the group plans to remain in Kyiv until October 26. "We will be here until October 26 and are expecting around 18,000 people," the representative said, referring to the expected number of participants.

The gathering is taking place across several locations in the capital, with Independence Square serving as one of the main points featured in the live broadcast.

Europe's energy dependence has an American blind spot

Washington is pressing Europe to open its emergency diesel reserves, threatening to restrict American exports if governments refuse. European countries are being asked to draw down the fuel they keep for a supply crisis to help bring prices down. The demand comes with an accusation that Europe has failed to honour its earlier promises.

Israel assassinates director of Turkish aid group in central Gaza's Deir al Balah

At least nine Palestinians have been killed and 18 injured by Israeli strikes over the past 24 hours, according to Gaza's Ministry of Health.

"...The targeted individual killed inside a vehicle was traveling between displacement camps for the delivery of much needed aid including hot meals," according to Al Jazeera's correspondent in Gaza City.

"Nine other people in the vicinity were wounded when the drone strike hit the vehicle traveling in Deir al Balah city. These were people who happened to be walking on the sidewalk or crossing the road. Some of the victims are in critical condition," the correspondent added...

The oil reserves in Western countries have been depleted as a result of the conflict with Iran, according to Russell Hardy, CEO of Vitol Group, the world's largest independent oil trading company.
