a country so fucked one of their main hospitals doesn't treat fat people on upper floors because it might collapse.
I'm not making that up, by the way.
"Staff at a London hospital have been warned not to send obese patients to its first floor waiting room amid fears the building will not take their weight.
Patients at Ealing Hospital who weigh 30 stone or more are instead being fast tracked to ground floor wards because management are worried they are too heavy for the admissions ward upstairs..."

AIPAC ends direct campaign contributions for US candidates
The largest and most powerful pro Israel lobby group in the US announced on 21 October that it would no longer directly endorse congressional candidates, make direct campaign contributions, or send member donations to candidates.
Instead, the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) will encourage members to donate directly to specific candidates or through other pro Israel political action committees (PACs).
AIPAC announced the move in a letter to supporters on Wednesday, in a subtle acknowledgment that support for Israel has become a liability for political candidates following three years of Israel's genocide of Palestinians in Gaza.

"Iran is doing everything they can to drive up the price of Oil prior to the US Midterm Election," the US commander in chief stated. "They are even making up fake hits, mines, and everything else, because more Oil is coming through the Hormuz Strait now than it did even prior to the beginning of the Conflict."

Europe will have to accept dependence on us
European governments should stop worrying about their growing dependence on American AI, US tech giant Palantir's top executive for the UK and Europe has said. Instead, they should focus on the advantages the products offer, particularly against Russia, Palantir UK CEO Louis Mosley believes.
The European Commission is frantically trying to reduce reliance on American tech and the US in general. "Europe is going to have to accept some dependency," Mosely told Bloomberg News this week.

Macron bans protests
French President Emmanuel Macron has announced a crackdown on public demonstrations, ordering authorities to ban protests and restrict even officially organized marches as nationwide unrest over soaring living costs and deteriorating public services continues.
The restrictions, announced Thursday following an emergency meeting with intelligence chiefs and senior ministers, come ahead of another wave of demonstrations planned for Saturday, after some of France's worst street violence in years.
Macron said local authorities would prohibit deemed "illegitimate" gatherings organized by individuals or groups deemed to lack authority, while demonstrations arranged by recognized organizations, such as trade unions, would be considered for approval but could be required to use alternative routes...

US President Donald Trump has threatened to launch another military operation against Iran, as Washington quietly withdraws diplomatic personnel and relocates troops from bases across the Middle East in moves resembling preparations ahead of the initial US Israeli strikes in February.
"We may do another little Epic Fury, or they"ll agree," Trump declared during a campaign rally in Florida on Friday, referring to the military offensive launched against Iran on February 28.
"If they're smart, they'll just say, let's get down to business," he added, before expressing doubt that Tehran would agree to Washington's demands...

Fire destroys Hitler's "Eagle's Nest' mountain retreat
The Eagle's Nest mountainous retreat built for Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler in the Bavarian Alps has been devastated by a blaze, the German police have said. The former tea house for the leader of the Third Reich, which was constructed on the peak of the Obersalzberg in southern Germany in 1938, sits at an altitude of 1,834 meters (6,000 feet).
A fire alarm at the Eagle's Nest went off on Friday evening, and it was completely engulfed in flames by the time emergency services arrived, the police said. The high elevation complicated the work of some 200 fire fighters, who were only able to extinguish the blaze on Saturday morning, they added. "It is damaged to a large extent. The house is unlikely to be saved," a police spokesperson told Bild tabloid.

Trump threatens Cuba "stopover" after Iran as Rubio urges collaborators to work with CIA
US President Donald Trump renewed his threat to topple Cuba's government while speaking to supporters at a rally in Florida on 24 October. "We'll do a little stopover," Trump said. "Actually, what we're going to do with Cuba is, we're going to come back from Iran. Those beautiful ships will pass Cuba. We'll have one of them stop about 50 yards off the coast. They'll raise up their hands. And then we're going to send Marco Rubio in to finish up the deal."
Shortly after the rally, State Secretary and National Security Advisor Marco Rubio urged Cubans to betray their country and collaborate with the CIA. "Now is the time" for action on Cuba, Rubio posted on social media, telling Cubans "to seize this opportunity to create the change you desire through a discreet partnership with the CIA."
The imperial wars of aggression will never end unless the empire is forced to stop.

Forwarded from The Europe Update - European news, analyses & reflections (Veritas)
🇩🇪 This week hackers stole around 420,000 emails from AfD politicians.
Party representatives confirm that hackers attacked a hosting provider at the end of September and condemn the leak as "an attack on the German party system and therefore on democracy itself."
WELT journalists analyzed Alice Weidel's old emails, and what they discovered is very interesting and shows who she is.
In October 2015, Weidel warned her colleagues that the party's proximity to Pegida, an anti-Islam street movement, and to the neo-Nazi National Democratic Party of Germany (now known as The Homeland) was alienating the conservative voters the party needed to attract.
"In the west we are completely losing the mainstream conservative electorate through our proximity to Pegida, and in the east through our proximity to the NPD," she wrote.
Weidel also strongly opposed a speech by Björn Höcke from the same year in which he contrasted a "life-affirming African expansionary type" with a "self-negating European placeholder type."
"This is deeply problematic, because the reasoning here is racial. It is fundamentally wrong," she wrote to the AfD's federal executive board.
In another message, she warned that extremists were deliberately blurring the boundary between the AfD and neo-Nazi politics, driving mainstream conservatives away "in horror."
She also feared that Höcke's rhetoric could expose the party to scrutiny by the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution, the domestic intelligence service monitoring threats to the constitutional order.
"Höcke's statements alone and the use of the term Volksgemeinschaft" — the Nazi-era concept of an ethnic national community — "are enough to land the AfD in that report," she wrote, referring to the intelligence service's annual assessment. "Some in our party seem in a hurry to drive the AfD, deliberately or not, into oblivion."
The leak also includes emails about Höcke's January 2017 speech to the AfD's youth wing, in which he attacked Germany's culture of Holocaust remembrance.
Höcke described Berlin's Holocaust memorial as a "memorial of shame," criticized the country's efforts to confront its Nazi past and demanded a "180-degree turn in the politics of memory."
Weidel herself filed a motion to expel him from the AfD.
The motion, obtained by WELT, accused Höcke of using "vocabulary from Adolf Hitler" and endorsing the "Führerprinzip" — the Nazi doctrine of absolute leadership authority. It described him as displaying an "affinity in essence with National Socialism."
In May 2017, she condemned an AfD election poster featuring a pregnant woman with the slogan "'New Germans?' We'll make our own" as a Nazi poster.

6 Million Barrels in Two Minutes Draws CFTC Scrutiny
Oil traders sold futures equivalent to at least 6 million barrels of crude in just two minutes on March 23, shortly before President Donald Trump backed away from threats to strike Iranian power plants. Now, the federal regulator overseeing those trades says it has been looking into the activity.
Commodity Futures Trading Commission Chairman Michael Selig said Friday that the agency's enforcement division has been examining oil trading during the Iran war, including the unusual surge preceding Trump's announcement.
"Our enforcement division has been looking at all these trades," Selig told Bloomberg Television. "We take this stuff very seriously."
The March 23 selling involved Brent and West Texas Intermediate futures. Trading volume during the two-minute window was more than 8.5 times the volume recorded during the same period over the preceding week, according to Bloomberg.
The timing has raised questions about whether some traders had advance knowledge of Trump's plans.
