Definition
The controlled emergency landing of an aircraft on water.
A controlled ditching might be made in case of a loss of control. In the case of most multi-engined aircraft, this will be a consequence of the failure of more than 50% of the available engines because of:
• Fuel contamination
• Fuel exhaustion
• Fuel starvation
• Ingestion into more than one engine of large birds
• Ingestion of high density volcanic ash
• Uncontrollable and developing fire or structural failure

Evacuation procedure
After ditching passengers and crew must be evacuated without delay. Flight attendants are trained in evacuation procedures and the correct use of all equipment provided to assist the evacuation. They should be able to quickly assess the situation and help the people leave the aircraft. In the event of ditching, emergency survival equipment (life rafts, life boats and individual life vests) will also become necessary.

🛫 👨🏼💻 A portable electronic device (PED) is defined as any piece of lightweight, electrically-powered equipment. These devices typically are consumer electronic devices, capable of communication, data processing or computing. Examples are laptop computers, tablets, e-readers, smartphones, MP3 players, drones and electronic toys.
Why are PEDs with Lithium Batteries an Added Risk?
• Lithium batteries are both an ignition source and a fuel.
• Lithium batteries have been a fire source in the cabin.
• Lithium battery fires may reduce the effectiveness of the fire suppression system.
- They produce hydrogen gas when in thermal runaway.
- Thermal runaway can propagate from cell to cell unless cooled.
