"The Ethiopian in me that never left", states the author, and through his penetrating insights and analytical skills takes the best of the Ethiopia's past and his hopes for its future. Those in search of their identity with Ethiopia at a time when the country is facing formidable challenges in this rapidly changing globalized world, and especially the younger generation of Ethiopians, will find this book, "Waves: Ethiopia's Endemic Poverty that Globalization Won't Tackle but Ethiopians Can," timely and immensely beneficial to read and act upon. This is among the most analytically-based and well researched books I have read and commented on. I was especially moved by the author's human touch.

Dr. Svetlana Sharipova, Social Scientist, the World Bank

Dr. Aklog has meticulously and mercilessly exposed the manifold shortcomings of the political and economic constructs by the current government of Ethiopia---of the few, by the few and for the few--- that mischievously claims: divided we stand united we fall, thus turning the time-tested adage governing national unity on his head. Through his analysis backed by ample data, he has gone on to show the way out of the morass. Ethiopians better heed his clarion for corrective actions sooner than later, to avert the possible cataclysm awaiting us.

Ato Tadesse Gebre-Kidan, former Governor of the National Bank of Ethiopia

In his book, "Waves: Ethiopia's Endemic Poverty that Globalization Won't Tackle but Ethiopians Can," Dr. Aklog has critically and genuinely diagnosed the socioeconomic and political problems Ethiopia is currently facing thoroughly and systematically. This book is the first of its kind to dissect the social, economic and political predicaments that the Ethiopian have been subjected to for centuries, has come up with a viable strategy for economic and social transformation. The strengthen of this book is the amount of factual information about the multifaceted problems the Ethiopian people face day in and day out that strengthen his arguments. The author has defined the problems, identified the primary causes, presented points of attack, presented background information, and offered practical solutions we, Ethiopians could pursue. This is a must read book for academics, civic and opposition groups, NGOs and the donor community. The author has demonstrated beyond a shadow of a doubt ethnic-governance has failed to resolve Ethiopia's endemic poverty; has strengthen corrupt practices and inequality and diminished empowerment. In his words, the "greatest hurdle the vast majority face is endemic poverty, despite massive foreign aid to the government to the tune of $25-$30 billion since it took power.

Ato Girma Tefera, Finance Specialist and retiree from the World Bank
