Role of Bihar in the Swadeshi Movement

* On 16th October 1905, Rakhi Bandhan Divas was celebrated at Darbhanga, which encouraged the youth.

* Youngsters were deeply inspired by the ideas of the Swadeshi Movement.

* Surendra Nath Banerjee visited Munger in 1906.

* The Bihari Students’ Conference was established in 1906.

* In 1908, at Sonpur Fair, a meeting was held under the presidency of Nawab Sarfaraz Hussain Khan, where the Bihar Provincial Congress Committee was formed.

* The first session of the committee was held at Patna in 1908, under the presidency of Syed Hasan Imam.

* In this meeting, six delegates were selected to represent Bihar at the Congress annual session held in Madras in December 1908.

The six delegates were:

Deep Narain Singh
Syed Najmul Hoda
Parmeshwar Lal
Sachchidananda Sinha

* Newspapers like ‘Indian Mirror’ and ‘Bengalee’ praised the communal harmony that existed in Bihar during that period.
