On 29th May 2025, the Ministry of Home Affairs will conduct "Operation Shield", a large-scale Civil Defence Exercise across all districts adjoining India's Western border in Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan & Gujarat.

Key Facts about the scheme : 1. The prices of foodgrains specified under NFSA – Rs.3 per kg for rice, Rs.2 per kg for wheat and Re.1 per kg for coarsegrains.
2. The Central Government is thus providing highly subsidized foodgrains to about 80 crore beneficiaries in the country.

Broad Objective : 1. NFSA was enacted in 2013 and was being implemented in only 11 States/UTs in May, 2014.
2. During 2016, special attention was given for its implementation in remaining States/UTs.
3. To meet the expenditure incurred on intra-State movement of foodgrains and fair price shop dealers’ margins.
