What are the Sources of Current Affairs for Banking & Regulatory Exams? Government Sources * PIB (Press Information Bureau) * RBI * SEBI Business Newspapers * The Economic Times * Mint * Business Standard General Newspapers * The Hindu * The Indian Express…
Q. I am not able to score good marks in GA. What should I do?

Read a daily newspaper such as Business Standard, Mint, or The Economic Times,
along with the weekly RBI FAQs and speeches and PIB Explainers on your own. These cover a significant portion of GA and are largely self-explanatory.

If you are unable to read a daily newspaper due to work, you can follow any weekly news compilation, such as AC.

Simultaneously read my monthly PIB 360 Magazine throughout the year. However, once the notification is released, your main focus should be on the last 4-5 months of current affairs.

Additionally, since RBI, NABARD examinations ask a significant number of questions related to Government Schemes, it is better to cover the schemes Ministry-wise in advance. This will also make reading the PIB 360 Magazine much easier.

The reason is simple: schemes appear randomly in PIB whenever they are in the news. However, our brain naturally looks for patterns. If you have already studied the schemes Ministry-wise, then while reading the magazine, you are not learning everything from scratch. Instead, you are revising the facts and adding new information, recent developments, and value additions to what you already know.

If you follow this approach consistently, 70-80% of your GA preparation will already be covered. You will be in a much better position to score good marks than most candidates, without having to put in significant additional effort during the examination period.

The time saved due to this activity can instead be utilised for QRE practice, GA practice, and revision once the notification comes out rather than learning current affairs for the first time and giving significant amount to of time to it and even though it won't guarantee you good marks, as you can't do 6 months of work in 30 days.

But why did Government Bond yields rise? Remember: Bond Price ↑ → Bond Yield ↓ Bond Price ↓ → Bond Yield ↑ The article says government bond yields hardened: 10-year yield: around 6.81%, up from 6.76% 5-year yield: around 6.44% 3-year yield: around 6.35%…
The RBI has advanced the deadline for banks to mobilise fresh Foreign Currency Non-Resident (Bank), or FCNR(B), deposits under the special facility to August 31, 2026, from September 30. As of August 13, FCNR(B) deposits mobilised under the facility stood at $52.3 billion, while total inflows through the broader forex facilities were around $56.8 billion.

According to Governor, the decision was taken as foreign currency inflows were stronger than expected. The RBI expects its three schemes — FCNR(B), external commercial borrowings (ECBs) and overseas foreign currency borrowings (OFCBs) — to attract at least $80 billion.

More Cash, Less Usage Pose Challenge for RBI
The central issue is the “cash paradox”: India is witnessing rapid growth in digital payments, particularly UPI, yet Currency in Circulation (CIC) continues to rise strongly. This makes it difficult for the RBI to accurately forecast future cash demand and plan currency production and distribution.

Currency in Circulation continues to rise
CIC increased to ₹42.76 trillion as of July 31, 2026. It was ₹41.66 trillion at the end of FY26 and ₹37.24 trillion a year earlier.
Year-on-year CIC growth accelerated to 12.5% as of July 31, 2026.
CIC growth was 11.84% in FY26, compared with 6.07% in FY25 and 3.93% in FY24.

Despite the rise in the absolute amount of cash: Cash-to-GDP ratio declined to 11% in FY26. It was 14.4% in FY21.

More Cash, Less Usage Pose Challenge for RBI The central issue is the “cash paradox”: India is witnessing rapid growth in digital payments, particularly UPI, yet Currency in Circulation (CIC) continues to rise strongly. This makes it difficult for the RBI…
Digital payments are growing rapidly, but they are largely replacing small-ticket and debit-card transactions.

At the same time, cash continues to have a role in high-value transactions, creating a coexistence of cash and digital payments rather than a simple shift from one to the other.

The challenge for RBI
RBI has to maintain adequ
ate currency availability while avoiding excessive production.
Overestimating demand could lead to:
Excessive currency production
Higher storage and distribution costs
Underestimating demand could result in:
Cash shortages/crunch
Disruption in economic activity.
RBI therefore uses a five-year forward assessment for currency-demand projections, considering CIC, GDP growth, interest rates, food inflation and digital-payment adoption.

RBI produces around 28–30 billion banknotes annually across six denominations and disposes of approximately 21 billion notes every year. As of August 2026, around 176 billion banknotes were in circulation in India.

Clean Note Policy
The RBI's Clean Note Policy, operational since 1999, aims to ensure that citizens have access to good-quality banknotes in the denomination and location of their choice.
Banks are required to assess the quality of notes in circulation and replace notes that are found unfit.
Something Good related to Food Safety in happening in Some part of the Country, hopefully it reaches throughout the Country Soon.

To ease record-high domestic prices and rebuild tightening supply buffers ahead of the festival season, India has allowed duty-free imports of 1 million tonnes of raw sugar until October 31, 2026. This marks the first time in nearly a decade that the world's largest consumer and producer has resorted to imports.

This marks a sharp U-turn in the government’s sugar policy. Just nine months ago, in November 2025, the government approved 1.5 million tonnes of sugar for export, later increasing it to 2 million tonnes, amid the expectation of a bumper crop.

And around 3 million tonnes of sugar were diverted to ethanol this year, roughly 10% of sugar output.

The episode suggests the system was “misled” into believing fundamentals were strong, even as production lagged consumption.
