Canada's curlers 1st team announced for 2026 Paralympic Winter Games
Canada’s Collinda Joseph, once an alternate with limited playing time at the 2022 Paralympics, will now compete as the starting lead for the 2026 Milan-Cortina Paralympics.
With over a decade of competitive experience, Joseph says the new role boosts her confidence and allows her to contribute more directly. She joins a veteran lineup featuring Paralympic medallists Mark Ideson, Ina Forrest, and Jon Thurston, along with newcomer Gilbert Dash as alternate.
Coach Mick Lizmore says these Games will feel special since athletes can finally have family and supporters present, unlike during the pandemic-era Beijing Games.

Alberta premier confirms plans to allow surgeons to work in both public and private health care systems
Alberta Premier Danielle Smith confirmed plans for a Dual Practice Surgery Model that would allow surgeons to work in both the public and private systems, aiming to reduce long wait times for elective procedures. Surgeons would still be required to complete a set number of publicly funded surgeries but could perform additional private ones. Smith says over 80,000 Albertans are currently waiting for elective surgeries, and the model would increase overall surgical capacity without adding out-of-pocket costs for necessary care. The Alberta Medical Association cautioned that any reforms must be evidence-based, involve meaningful consultation, and ensure the public system isn’t harmed.

Saab says Canada's air force could have Gripen fighter jets in as little as 3 years
Should Canada choose to fly the Swedish-built Gripen-E, the country’s air force could receive the first aircraft as quickly — or perhaps even sooner — than the long-awaited American-manufactured F-35, the CEO of Saab signalled Thursday.
Micael Johansson also said the defence giant is willing to set up not only an assembly factory in Canada, but a full-fledged manufacturing centre and a research and development hub.
He added, however, that the deal, which would include technology and intellectual property transfers, would be predicated on Canada deciding to purchase the fighter.

Ontario minor hockey investigating after coaches get in fist fight at U13 game
A U13 hockey game in Lakeshore, Ontario ended in a fight between coaching staff from the Riverside Rangers and Belle River Canadiens, prompting the Ontario Minor Hockey Association to suspend all bench staff from both teams pending a hearing. The OMHA and both hockey associations condemned the behaviour, stating it does not reflect their values. Video from LiveBarn showed coaches fighting on the ice after the game, with players nearby. Lakeshore’s mayor also expressed disappointment, saying adults must act as role models and that the town will remind groups of facility conduct rules. The incident remains under investigation, and Riverside won the game 6–5.

Canada Post, union agree in principle to deal after 2 years of contentious bargaining
Canada Post and the union representing thousands of mail carriers across the country say they have reached agreements in principle after two years of contentious bargaining.
The Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) says the sides "have agreed on the main points of the deals," and that rotating strike action has been suspended as the parties work out language in the new contracts.
"We need to agree on the contractual language that will form the collective agreements that would be put to a vote by the members," CUPW said in a statement, noting that it will "retain the right to strike."
Canada Post confirmed that the parties have reached a tentative agreement, pending a union vote.
"While this is being done, it has been agreed that all strike or lockout activities are suspended," the agency said.
