Edmonton-area youth, 15, arrested for terrorism-related offence
A 15-year-old from the Edmonton area has been arrested by the RCMP for a terrorism-related offence linked to the violent online group known as the 764 network. Authorities allege the youth was likely to commit terrorism offences and have placed him under a terrorism peace bond, which allows monitoring without formal charges. The 764 network targets vulnerable children through gaming platforms like Minecraft and Roblox, luring them into private chats on Discord and Telegram. The group promotes sexual abuse, self-harm, animal torture, and violent radicalization, with members holding extreme ideological views, according to RCMP.

Developers seek to expand Ottawa suburbs after Ontario rules rewritten
Several Ottawa housing developers have already taken advantage of a significant change to Ontario planning rules and made individual requests to the City of Ottawa aimed at having their large rural properties earmarked for future subdivisions.
But they haven't necessarily agreed with the hefty $1.8 million fee council decided to charge or the list of technical studies it required, so developers have filed at least four or five appeals and put the city on the defensive at the Ontario Land Tribunal in recent months. The Ontario government's new provincial planning statement took effect last October. Within days, paperwork was submitted to city planners to expand the urban boundary by hundreds of hectares north of Kanata, in the Cedarview area of Barrhaven, and on the edge of Stittsville.

Quebec doctors say new bill will drive them away, threaten patient access
Doctors at a medical clinic in Kingsey Falls, a town in central Quebec, say they are contemplating closing their clinic and pivoting out of family practice — or Quebec altogether — if a bill allowing the province to regulate how physicians are paid is adopted as it is written.
Bill 106, tabled earlier this month, would link up to 25 per cent of physicians' pay to their performance in an effort to get them to take on more patients.
But in a statement posted to their social media, doctors at the Kingsey Falls medical clinic said the new rules would impose unattainable performance targets on them and reduce their ability to deliver quality care to patients.

With few leads, search for missing N.S. kids focuses on area where boot print found
Searchers looking for two missing kids in Pictou County on Saturday scoured the area where a boot print was found in a previous search.
But searchers concede they have little to go on and have no way of knowing if the boot print is even related to Lilly Sullivan, 6, and Jack Sullivan, 4. They were reported missing May 2.
"We don't know for sure it was from the children, but it's the only real thing we've had to go on thus far," said Amy Hansen of Colchester Ground Search and Rescue, who is managing the search this weekend.

Quebec Premier François Legault is calling U.S. President Donald Trump's latest tariff threat on Canadian steel and aluminum producers "completely unjustified."
He made the remark in a post on X, after Trump announced his intention to double the tariffs on steel and aluminum imports to 50 per cent next Wednesday. "If he goes ahead with this tariff increase, it will harm our economy, as well as the American economy," Legault wrote in French.

Trump biopic The Apprentice takes home top film prize at Canadian Screen Awards
The divisive, little-seen, yet still-controversial Donald Trump biopic The Apprentice managed to grab the brass ring on Sunday, taking home the top award of best motion picture at the final night of the Canadian Screen Awards.
It beat out stiff competition in that top category from filmmaker Matthew Rankin's Universal Language, which made the Academy Awards shortlist for best international feature late last year.
And while The Apprentice was still the big winner of the night with two, Rankin's surreal comedy — set in an imagined version of Winnipeg where Farsi and French are the official languages — was no slouch either. Its five prior wins over the weekend and one Sunday, for directing, meant Universal Language still had the most wins of all films nominated.
