Is Nova Scotia going too far by banning people from woods during dry weather? Some think so
Critics in Nova Scotia are calling a new drought-driven ban on hiking and camping in forests government overreach, arguing it unfairly restricts safe outdoor activities. The provincial government says the measure, which carries a \$25,000 fine, is needed to prevent wildfires amid hot, dry conditions. Opponents like Louisdale resident Julissa Stewart claim the ban violates mobility rights under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms and are seeking legal and public support to challenge it. While Stewart supports limiting fire-risk activities, she says a blanket ban on all forest access is excessive.

B.C. mushroom picking robots get $40M boost to fill growing agricultural labour shortage
A B.C.-based startup that makes artificial intelligence (AI)-run mushroom harvesting robots says a recent $40-million investment will help the company remain at the cutting edge of autonomous agricultural technology, at a time when the industry is facing widespread labour shortages.
4AG (pronounced "forage") Robotics is based in the rural lakeside city of Salmon Arm, between Vancouver and Calgary, on the outskirts of the Rocky Mountains. There, it creates robots that use AI-run cameras and suction cups to pluck, trim and pack commercially grown button mushrooms.

Kingston wildfire grows due to 'extremely volatile' weather conditions
A regional state of emergency was declared for Newfoundland and Labradorβs Bay de Verde peninsula, from Bristolβs Hope to Whiteway, as volatile weather and strong winds fueled the 4,895-hectare Kingston fire, pushing it toward Ochre Pit Cove. While no evacuation order is in place, residents are urged to be ready to leave. Ground crews were pulled for safety, with firefighting efforts focused on the northern edge using four water bombers, four helicopters, and reinforcements from Ontario, Quebec, and the Coast Guard. Meanwhile, a fire near Happy Valley-Goose Bay has been extinguished, but crews are tackling a new lightning-caused blaze 19 km south of the town.

B.C. to appeal landmark Aboriginal title ruling over Fraser River land in Metro Vancouver
The most recent Indigenous rights and title ruling in B.C. is heading back to court after the province released a statement saying it plans to appeal the decision.
The Supreme Court of B.C. ruled last week in favour of the Cowichan Tribes on Vancouver Island, granting it fishing rights and Aboriginal title over a parcel of land on Lulu Island in Richmond, B.C.
Niki Sharma, B.C.'s attorney general, said in a statement that the ruling has unintended consequences for private property rights that must be looked at by a higher court.
