A priest in Scarborough opened a food bank in her garage
When renovations at the Church of the Holy Wisdom in Scarborough threatened to shut down its food bank, Rev. Gerlyn Henry moved the entire operation into her own garage to keep it running. The food bank now serves about 300 people a week, using metal shelves and volunteers to run a three-hour weekly pop-up service. Henry felt closing would harm community members who rely on the food bank as an essential lifeline, many of whom come on foot. Volunteers say staying close to the original location was crucial. Although nearby residents needed reassurance, Henryβs home ultimately became the workable solution to keep the service going.

Alberta energy deal was 'the last straw,' says Guilbeault after cabinet resignation
Former environment minister Steven Guilbeault warned that Canada can no longer meet its 2030 climate targets after Prime Minister Mark Carneyβs government rolled back key environmental measures in a new agreement with Alberta, prompting Guilbeaultβs resignation. He said the deal β which includes a new bitumen pipeline and suspends major federal climate policies β undermines essential regulations he helped develop, and criticized Alberta Premier Danielle Smith for reversing renewable energy progress. Guilbeault, who learned of the deal through media reports, said it was the βlast straw,β though he still supports Carney and will remain in the Liberal caucus, hoping his resignation serves as a wake-up call.

Is it illegal to spoil Christmas? Police in Ontario get complaints about anti-Santa signs
During Brantford, Ontarioβs Santa Claus parade, police received multiple complaints after a homeowner along the parade route displayed signs saying βSanta is fake,β βSanta isnβt real,β and similar messages. About 30,000 people attended the parade, and the signs upset many families. Police spoke to the resident, who removed the signs, though officials noted the messages werenβt illegal because they were on private property. The police encouraged residents to keep the event festive and community-friendly.

Legault calls Miller a 'disgrace to all Quebecers' for his comments on French language
A day after being named federal culture minister, Marc Miller is drawing ire from several Quebec officials, including the premier of his home province.
Miller, who replaced Steven Guilbeault in cabinet on Monday, said Tuesday that the French language is precarious throughout North America, rather than saying it is declining in Quebec specifically, as the provincial government would characterize it.
βAs a Quebecer, Iβm pretty fed up with this debate that is generally identity-based,β Miller said in French during a scrum.
