The sari draped with immense significance in the traditional clothing for women in Tamil Nadu. ๐Ÿ’ƒ The popular Tamil poetry Cilappatikaram even portrays females in a sari.
๐Ÿ“œ It's a versatile dress women wear everywhere โ€“ offices ๐Ÿข, temples ๐Ÿ•‰๏ธ, parties ๐ŸŽ‰, and marriages ๐Ÿ’’.
South Indian saris are renowned across India for their intricate zari work. โœจ The Kancheepuram sari is especially well-known for its exquisite style. ๐Ÿคฉ Its colour, texture, and style are quite distinct from North Indian saris.
The length of a sari usually ranges from five to six yards. ๐Ÿ“

The traditional dress of Tamil men is as elegant as the dress of women.

๐Ÿคฉ Lungi ๐Ÿฉฒ is the most common bottom-wear for men in Tamil Nadu. It's wrapped around the waist and thighs.

Lungi comes in different colors and is the traditional dress worn by men in marriages too.

๐Ÿคต This rectangular cloth is generally made with cotton ๐ŸŒฟ and is mostly worn with a shirt ๐Ÿ‘• or Angavastram draped over it.

Angavastram is another significant part of Tamil dressing, a piece of cloth wrapped around the shoulders.

In earlier days, Angavastram was used as upper clothing, but now it's typically worn over a shirt. โœจ

The traditional dressing of men and women in Tamil Nadu is incomplete without gold jewellery like necklaces ั†ะตะฟะพั‡ะบะฐ, chains ๐Ÿ”—, payals anklet, bangles ้•ฏ, maang-tika and earrings ๐Ÿ‘‚.

Tamilians love gold ๐Ÿช™ and are known to possess great amounts of gold jewellery. Apart from jewellery, women in Tamil Nadu love to decorate their hair with flower garlands ๐Ÿ’, known as Gajras.

Uttapam is a dish very similar to the dosa ๐Ÿฅž and is a specialty of Tamil Nadu food. It's made by grinding urad dal and rice powder together. ๐Ÿš

This mixture is then allowed to ferment for a few hours and slow-fried over very minimal oil on a skillet. ๐Ÿณ

Uttapam is flat and crispy at the sides, just like a dosa, but soft and doughy in the middle, like an Idli. The uttapam is then given a little topping of tomatoes ๐Ÿ…, onions ๐Ÿง…, capsicum ๐Ÿซ‘, etc.

It tastes delicious with either coconut chutney ๐Ÿฅฅ or Sambar, however, I'd recommend the coconut chutney. You can also try it with the spicy tomato and chili chutney ๐ŸŒถ๏ธ which tastes quite heavenly. ๐Ÿ˜‡

Tamil Nadu food surprises! ๐Ÿคฉ Banana Bonda is a delicious treat.

It tastes as good as it looks! ๐Ÿ˜‹
I know you've all seen and eaten bondas, but this one has a different stuffing, though it's cooked the same way.

Instead of potato and other veggies, it's stuffed with banana ๐ŸŒ and then fried in oil. Contrasting the usual spicy bonda, this is sweet ๐Ÿฏ and eaten as a snack with tea. โ˜• Tamil Nadu food never ceases to amaze! โœจ

Rasam is my personal favourite! ๐Ÿ˜‹ Tamarind forms the base of this soup-like dish, and added to it are tomatoes ๐Ÿ…, pepper, and cumin seeds.

The rasam is almost a pre-meal appetizer, which is light and doesn't fill you up too much before a meal.

The rasam is a famous dish that is poured over rice ๐Ÿš like a normal curry. Though it is almost colourless, it has a burst of flavour.

You can also drink it as you would a soup ๐Ÿฅฃ. It is good for a sore throat too! ๐Ÿคง
