This will happen only in India!
In any other civilised country this 12th century sculpture of Dhakshinamurthy will be kept most protected and taken utmost care!
Fortunately this is totally intact!
Look at the close up shot - how wonderful His face is!
But, here we do not think that this is important and hence kept it in the garden outside the Govt Museum, Chennai open to the vagaries of weather, when 1000s of Sq Meters of space is available inside the museum!
We can already see some white thing growing on His chest!
God knows what is it!

Extraordinary sculpture!
Marriage of Siva and Uma!
Most important in this sculpture is Uma’s face!
She is expressing her happiness with a tiny nod and a ghost of a smile!
How beautifully the sculptor has brought it out!
Thillai Nataraja temple, Chidambaram

How is that we see a westerner with a hat on the vimanam of Peruvudaiyar Kovil (Brihadiswarar temple)?
During the reign of Raghunatha Nayakar from 1600 to 1645 this temple underwent a major renovation!
Those days Nayaks were trading with Dutch people and Danish guys used to travel to Tanjavur. During the renovation the sculptor added this “Man with a hat” on the northern side of the vimanam!
This is because the original sculptures on this portion were damaged and necessitated the renovation work!

Hoysaleswara wonder!
In this sculpture from the Hoysaleswara Temple, Halebidu, the feet are among its most remarkable features.
The sculptor has shown one foot firmly planted while the other is lifted lightly onto the toes, capturing the exact instant of a dance step. The raised heel and delicately arched toes give a wonderful sense of balance and movement, as though she is about to glide into the next pose.
Notice also how the ankles are adorned with finely carved anklets, and how each toe is individually shaped rather than merely suggested.
The planted foot bears the body's weight naturally, while the other appears almost weightless—a difficult effect to achieve in stone.
