Kerala has finalized the delimitation of its local body wards, adding 1,577 new wards across three-tier panchayats, raising the total from 18,373 to 19,950. This expansion will introduce 1,557 newly elected representatives in the rural areas during next year’s local body elections. The changes affect grama panchayats, block panchayats, and district panchayats alike, with the number of wards in block panchayats increasing from 2,080 to 2,267. Additionally, 15 new divisions will be created in district panchayats, with Thiruvananthapuram gaining two extra divisions and other districts adding one each. This move is aimed at improving local governance and fostering greater grassroots participation, ensuring more effective representation across Kerala’s rural communities.
