Jim Al-Khalili talks to Derk-Jan Dijk about the many aspects of sleep that he has studied over the last thirty years – such as how circadian rhythms interact with our sleep cycles, and how sleep changes in people with dementia. How many of you have sleep problems? Maybe it’s waking up in the middle of the night and then not being able to get back to sleep, or waking up too early, or nodding off all too often in front of the TV… or, more embarrassingly, during work meetings? One thing’s for sure: our modern world means that we are not sleeping in the way we used to. Derk-Jan Dijk, Distinguished Professor of Sleep and Physiology at the University of Surrey and Director of the Surrey Sleep Centre, says: we are the only species to extend our day using artificial light, and that has consequences.

Kompyuterda modellashtirish yordamida sifatli natijalarni olish uchun albatta kompyuter resurslari kerak bo'ladi. Hozirgi kunda ko'p protsessorli komyuterlar yoki oxirgi avlod grafik kartasi majvud komyuterlarni narxlari 1500-6000$ atrofida o'zgaradi. GROMACS programma paketida nafaqat CPU (protsessor) balki GPUdan (grafik karta prostessori) ham foydalanish mumkin ekan. Grafik kartalar asosan yuqori sifatli tasvirni ekranda ko'rsatish uchun foydalanib kelingan (turli xil kompuyter o'yinlari uchun), lekin hozir maxsus dasturlarlar o'rnatilsa modellashtirishni GPU kartada ham bajarish imkoniyarlari mavjud (buni o'zim ham yaqinda bildim 😁). Keling o'zim taxminan 20000 atomdan tashkil topgan oqsil+suv+ion sistemasini kunlik simulyatsiya bajarish qobilyatlarini turli sistemada baholadim. Jadvalda ko'rinib turganidek i9-core+RTX3080Ti parametrga ega bo'lgan kompyuter kunlik mikrosekund modellashtirish imkoniyatini ko'rsatdi 🏆. Demak, faqat CPU emas CPU+GPU birgalikda ishlatilsa samaradorlik keskin oshadi.

Toyota birinchilardan bo'lib yonilg'i xujayrasida harakatlanadigan avtomobilini yaratgan (2014y). Bu bortdagi vodorod va havodagi kislorod o'rtasidagi kimyoviy reaksiya natijasida hosil bo'lgan elektr energiyasi bilan ishlaydigan elektr dvigatel tomonidan boshqariladigan avtomobil.
Ushbu video yonilg'i xujayrasi texnologiyasi qanday ishlashini tushuntiradi.

Scientists have created a magnetic slime that is capable of squeezing through narrow spaces, encircling smaller objects and healing itself. The slime can be controlled by magnets and can act as both a solid and a liquid.

MIT (Massachusets texnologiya instituti) muhandislari tor, aylanma yo‘llar, masalan, miyaning labirintsimon tomirlari bo‘ylab faol sirpanib yura oladigan, magnit yordamida boshqariladigan, ipga o‘xshash robotni ishlab chiqqanlar (2019y).
