Cronos Halts Chain After $75M Tectonic Exploit
Cronos halted its entire network after identifying an exploit in Tectonic, its largest lending protocol, with on-chain analysts putting the total drain at roughly $75M.
A full base-layer halt of this size is rare, and it hands Cronos a narrow window to freeze and potentially recover funds before any restart. No timeline for resuming the chain has been given.
Cronos halted its entire network after identifying an exploit in Tectonic, its largest lending protocol, with on-chain analysts putting the total drain at roughly $75M.
The Cronos team stopped block production to prevent the attacker from moving the stolen funds, and the exploiter's addresses have been blacklisted, leaving the assets stranded on Cronos with no way to bridge them out while validators prepare a network fix. Researcher William Li (hklst4r) traced the loss across several attacker-controlled wallets, including one holding about $8M, to reach the ~$75M estimate. Tectonic is a Cronos-native money market, and lending protocols that rely on external price feeds and shared collateral pools remain among DeFi's most frequently drained primitives.

The Nasdaq-listed Hyperliquid Strategies expanded its committed equity facility to $2.5 billion from $1 billion, the HYPE treasury company disclosed in an 8-K filed on September 1.
The facility, a ChEF Purchase Agreement with Chardan Capital Markets first signed in October 2025, lets the firm sell newly issued common stock to the bank on demand. After the first $1 billion in sales, a Nasdaq rule caps stock priced below $12.02 at 42.6 million shares, or 19.99% of shares outstanding.
As of June 30 the company had sold roughly $647 million of stock under the deal, and as of August 23 it held about 29.4 million HYPE. It gave no reason for the expansion, but the added headroom lets it keep raising to grow its treasury.

💸 Crypto's August money went over the chains
In August, 90.7% of everything raised outside Polymarket's $1B – went to chain-agnostic companies: brokers, custodians, payment firms that don't care where they settle.
The actual chains split just $54M across 14 rounds, averaging under $4M each.
Investors are treating blockchains as infrastructure to use, not ecosystems to join.

⚡️Token or Series A: Which Milestone Do Early-Stage Crypto Projects Actually Reach?
For early-stage crypto teams, a token launch has become the more realistic milestone than a VC round. Across 3,757 Pre-Seed/Seed projects, a token launch was nearly twice as common as reaching Series A — and barely any did both.
That overlap is the interesting part: with just 4.7% hitting both, a token and a Series A look less like consecutive steps and more like two alternative ways to graduate.

Mapping Summer Gainers. Coins That Actually Grew
Two ways to read top gainer, and they barely overlap. By price, the summer went to Akedo and Bitway. But a lot of that is just a small base moving. Rank by actual dollars added to FDV and the board flips: Bitcoin, Ethereum and XRP.
One name shows up on both sides, Zcash, +182% in price and +$12.5B in value. Worth keeping both columns in mind before calling anything the "best" performer.

First Staked TRON ETF Debuts in the US
Canary launched a staked TRON ETF, TRXS, which begins trading on Cboe today as the first US fund tracking TRON's TRX while staking the tokens it holds.
The launch lands as TRON cements its role in stablecoin settlement: the network processed $2.1T in USDT transfers in Q2 and has crossed 15B lifetime transactions. TRXS joins Canary's growing crypto lineup alongside its XRP, Litecoin and HBAR products.

TRXS earns extra TRX through TRON's proof-of-stake system: the trust stakes substantially all of its holdings, staking fees are capped at 20% of rewards, and the remaining 80% is retained and folded into the fund's daily net asset value instead of being paid out separately. The annual sponsor fee is 1.10%, accruing daily and payable in TRX or cash. BitGo Bank & Trust custodies the TRX, U.S. Bank handles cash, and U.S. Bancorp Fund Services runs administration.
