City In New York Becomes First to Ban New Bitcoin Mining
The people of Plattsburgh, New York have had enough. On Thursday night, the city council approved an 18-month moratorium on new cryptocurrency mining operations. The temporary ban will be used to figure out what to do with these ding dong miners using up all the electricity.
Most cryptocurrencies require a “mining” process in which servers are used to guess the solution to a complex equation—the computer that gets the answer gets the newly minted coin. It takes a lot of electricity to be a miner, and the ones who are successful tend to use a large network of mining rigs. To cut down on their energy expenses, miners have flocked to cities with cheap power and we’re just beginning to learn what cost that brings for the municipalities themselves.

What is a cryptocurrency pump?
I’m assuming you mean pump as in ‘Pump and Dump’. Have you ever seen the Wolf of Wallstreet? It’s what they did with the Steve Madden stock.
A specific stock (or in this case, ICO) is pushed hard. It is hyped up and investors are promised large returns. The owner of the token or company sells as many shares as fast as possible to raise the price of the stock or token.
Once the value has peaked, the company or owner of the token sells off ALL of their shares or holdings for a large profit. This drastically reduces the price because the market is now flooded with shares for sale. Everyone who purchased in has now lost money and the owner of the company, token or stock makes out like a bandit.

Why Banks Are Finally Talking Crypto In Filings
"Scared" might still be a bit of an overstatement. But it's clear from the latest round of annual reports (also known as 10-K filings) that financial institutions, ranging from B of A's gargantuan peers to regional players, are taking bitcoin and its brood more seriously than they did a year or even six months ago.
That change is a reflection of how far cryptocurrency and blockchain technology have come in a short time, not only in terms of valuation but also public awareness, even if widespread consumer adoption remains distant.
For Bank of America, the threat is twofold: cryptocurrency use could make it harder for the bank to trace financial flows in order to comply with anti-money-laundering laws, and the technology is a potential competitor to traditional financial intermediaries.

British IT Hardware Supplier To Build Largest Bitcoin Farm In The UK
Bladetec, a British IT hardware supplier, has recently revealed plans to build a Bitcoin (BTC) farm in the South East of United Kingdom, The Sunday Telegraph reported March 17.
The project dubbed the Third Bladetec Bitcoin Mining Company Ltd (TBBMC) aims to raise £10 mln or roughly $13.9 mln from investors to build and operate the farm over the next two to three years. The developers then plan to sell off the mined coins as well as the mining equipment to provide investment returns, says the funding platform for the project, Envestry.
Bladetec founder John Kingdon claims that investors “don’t risk losing any money”. According to his calculations, sale of the mining equipment alone would result in profit; it’s unknown whether he took into consideration factors such as decreasing hardware prices and increasing mining costs that require more electricity and computing power every year.
TBBMC expects investment returns to follow one of four scenarios depending on the value of Bitcoin in the next two years. The scenarios range from a per annum price drop of up 40 percent, to a per annum price increase of over 50 percent.

Go Home Crypto Regulators, You're Drunk
If 2017 was the year of the crypto-bubble, 2018 will be the year of the crypto-regulator. Expect a rowdy year, as the new sheriff in town tries to assert control. It's only mid March, but already the main thread going through much of the cryptocurrency news is that regulators around the world are scrambling --some might say fumbling-- to make sense of, come to grips with, and control the direction this is all going in.

G20 Argentina Ends With No New Cryptocurrency Regulation
Nations forming the Group of 20 (G20) summit in Argentina this week issued Comunicado oficial de la primera reunión de ministros de Hacienda y presidentes de Bancos Centrales del G20, or first communication from the world’s central bankers concerning their work. The two page document is crammed with statements, and on the final page bankers seemed to table cryptocurrency regulations, while acknowledging both their potential for “efficiency and inclusiveness” but also “tax evasion, money laundering and terrorist financing.” Bankers urged the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) to apply their standards to “crypto-assets” in order to “advance global implementation.”

Alt-coins to boom soon but Bitcoin might bust sooner
The story today is more about alt-coins, those lesser known cryptos, than Bitcoin and Ethereum, the famous digital currencies investors are worried about.
You still have those optimists that believe or willing to speculate that Bitcoin will reach anywhere between $20,000 and $25,000 in 2018, but many are not convinced, and for good reasons.

Twitter boss Jack Dorsey thinks Bitcoin will become the world’s only currency in 10 years
It’s been a wild ride for Bitcoin and other crypto investors recently. At one point, the value of Bitcoin crashed through the floor leaving people panicking about whether they should buy, hold or sell. Who knows? I’m not Gordon Gekko!
