⏺Основные неполадки миссии:

🇺🇸🚀🌒 April 1st: NASA launched the Artemis II mission from Kennedy Space Center on Merritt Island, Florida.

The heavy-lift Space Launch System (SLS) rocket carrying the Orion spacecraft and a crew of four lifted off from the Florida launch pad at 6:35 PM local time.

➡️ This is NASA's first crewed mission under the Artemis program — and humanity's first crewed journey to the Moon in over five decades.
The 10-day mission includes a lunar flyby without landing.

🇺🇸 Orion crew:

• Commander Reid Wiseman — former Navy test pilot, NASA astronaut for 16 years. Logged 165 days aboard the ISS as a flight engineer in 2014.

• Pilot Victor Glover — 168 days in space as part of SpaceX Crew-1.

• Mission Specialist Christina Koch — one of NASA's most experienced astronauts, holds the record for the longest single spaceflight by a woman: 328 days.

• Mission Specialist Jeremy Hansen — Canadian Space Agency.

⏺Mission anomalies:

• Flight Termination System (FTS): About 90 minutes before launch, engineers detected a communication failure with the system. Fixed using a workaround with hardware left over from the Space Shuttle era.

• Launch Abort System (LAS): ~50 minutes before liftoff, a battery temperature anomaly was detected in one of the abort motor controllers. Classified as a "sensor error." Launch proceeded.

• Space toilet (UWMS): Already in Earth orbit, the Artemis II crew reported a toilet malfunction aboard Orion — NYT
Fixing the "controller issue" took several hours and was only partially resolved. If the toilet can't be fixed, astronauts will resort to the old-school bag method. Ventilation may also be affected.

• Telemetry loss: Shortly after the orbit-raising maneuver, Mission Control in Houston temporarily lost the data feed from Orion. Voice communication with the crew remained intact; engineers eventually restored telemetry and attributed it to an instrument anomaly.

• Outlook crashed in lunar orbit: Microsoft staying on brand — two crew members reported that their email profiles stopped working simultaneously.

Bottom line:

Somehow, in the era of "Make America Great Again," toilets don't work — not on a $13 billion aircraft carrier, and not on the first crewed lunar mission in 53 years, which cost nearly $100 billion.

There's a particular tragicomedy in the fact that humanity can calculate a precise ballistic trajectory to the Moon — with AI — but cannot guarantee a functioning toilet or a stable email client.

One can't help but recall the old Soviet-era joke featuring Japanese experts commenting on Soviet achievements: "Your kids are beautiful, but everything you make with your hands is simply no good..."
