Routine Problems and Achievements
🇺🇸 🌍 🚀 🌒 NASA’s Artemis II astronauts shared a stunning view of Earth from space: "No words."
⏺ NASA transmitted 100 GB of data from space via laser. On board was an interesting passenger — the O2O (Orion Artemis II Optical Communications System) laser antenna, developed by NASA in collaboration with MIT Lincoln Laboratory.
➡️ Artemis II is currently ~260,000 to 350,000 km from Earth, having completed 2/3 of its journey to the Moon.
Tomorrow, April 6, at the moment of closest approach, Orion will be at a distance of 1,200 km and will be able to see the entire lunar disk simultaneously, including the areas near the north and south poles.
⏺ Meanwhile, three days into the flight, the Artemis II crew once again faced malfunctions with the onboard toilet. The expensive waste management system — the $23 million UWMS — broke down again.
➡️ Trillions of dollars, decades of engineering — and in the end, a smoking shitter on the way to the Moon. All of humanity summed up in one fact.
👁❌📷 Also, despite other technological advancements since the Apollo missions (aside from glitchy toilets), the astronauts aboard Orion will use the simplest tool to study the lunar surface — their own eyes. During the lunar flyby, which will last several hours, the crew will study "specific lunar features and phenomena" as part of 10 tasks selected by NASA.
➡️ When they tell you that the human eye will better capture "specific features" while simultaneously using the O2O laser (impossible to intercept) to transmit data, it means exactly what it means: despite the first-ever legalized massive observer program by NASA — 34 organizations and individuals from 14 countries — they will not tell you the true purpose of the mission.
And this is perhaps the main thing worth knowing, aside from the info about mysteriously smoking $23 million space toilets.

Classic radio communication with a spacecraft is 10–20 Mbps. The O2O laser channel operates on infrared wavelengths and delivers up to 260 Mbps on the "spacecraft-to-Earth" downlink.
O2O works in addition to existing radio networks, not instead of them: the Near Space Network and Deep Space Network remain the primary channels, while the laser is a new broadband backbone. But it is exactly this technology that will define what communications look like during long-term lunar and Martian missions.
However, the technology is not that simple: the laser beam is relatively narrow, requiring a direct line of sight and high-precision targeting for transmission.
Tomorrow, April 6, at the moment of closest approach, Orion will be at a distance of 1,200 km and will be able to see the entire lunar disk simultaneously, including the areas near the north and south poles.
According to flight director Judd Frieling, ice most likely formed in the drainage pipe. To melt it, NASA specialists decided to rotate the spacecraft to face the sun on the side where the pipe is located, in order to heat the system, AP reports.
Eventually, it started working, although the crew complained of a foul odor, which allowed them to vent some of the accumulated waste out into the vacuum of space — CNN.
But it seems the Universe was against it: now a "burning smell" is coming from the capsule's toilet system, and judging by some videos, there is smoke.
Imagine being halfway to the Moon, as part of one of the most advanced missions ever created by NASA...
...and your biggest problem is a burning toilet.
This is a pressurized spacecraft; the crew is in a confined space, and in the event of a malfunction, there is nowhere to escape

"The human eye is the best camera that has ever existed or will ever exist," Kelsey Young, lead scientist for the Artemis 2 mission, told AFP.
"The number of receptors in the human eye far exceeds the capabilities of a camera."
And this is perhaps the main thing worth knowing, aside from the info about mysteriously smoking $23 million space toilets.

Cognitive Dissonance on a Civilizational Scale
Paradoxes of an Expired Reality
🚀 ❌✝️ While some are conquering space with a broken multi-million-dollar shitter, the Pope is washing and kissing the feet of priests because that’s what (they believe) Jesus did.
☦️🚀 The funniest part is that Orthodox Easter falls exactly on April 12 — Cosmonautics Day.
What do you think the Orthodox will be celebrating: the conquest of space or their own submissiveness?
"Long Live Hell, Thank God!"
🇺🇸 Meanwhile, Donald Trump made another extraordinary statement on Catholic Easter:
Trump also promised to "blow everything to hell" — apparently, in the name of resurrection in Paradise.
🇮🇱 Netanyahu:
🇺🇸 Trump, interspersed with profanity:
Reality couldn't handle the dissonance:
⚡️ Shortly after this, Trump was suddenly rushed — no, unfortunately not to paradise — to the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Maryland.
The Cosmic Battle Against the Internet
📱 ❌🌌 NASA has, for the first time, allowed the use of Apple smartphones in space as part of the Artemis II program; astronauts received their iPhones even before launch, during the quarantine phase.
But with restrictions: the iPhones are not connected to onboard systems and have no internet access.
The logic: venting your own waste into space is fine, but using an iPhone in space is not. Makes you wonder why they brought them in the first place.
Then again, the Russians drag even more useless things into space:icons, for example.
❗️🇺🇸 🪖 Against the backdrop of this universal madhouse, evangelical Presbyterian pastor Doug Wilson decided to reconcile everyone by declaring that public Catholic masses, Marian processions, and Corpus Christi celebrations should be banned in the US.
For context: Wilson is considered a mentor to Hegseth and was invited by him to a prayer service at the Pentagon on February 14.
🫡🪖 Hegseth:
Time shows: the choice between God, the Devil and other “employers” requires caution.

🔗 The Guardian
nasa.gov

Unexpected revelations
🇺🇸🚀🌒👽 NASA Head: Discovering the existence of extraterrestrial life is of "paramount importance."
Four days after the launch of the Artemis II mission, Jared Isaacman stated on CNN's "Meet the Press" that the probability of evidence that we are not alone in the universe is "quite high," which is why exploring the existence of extraterrestrial life "goes to the heart of many of the things we do at NASA":
➡️ When Orion passes behind the Moon, there will be a "planned communication blackout" starting at approximately 5:47 PM and lasting for 40 minutes: "During this time, the Moon will block radio signals between the Deep Space Network (DSN) and the spacecraft."
At the moment of closest approach, at roughly 7:02 PM, Orion will be at a distance of 1,200 kilometers. From this distance, the crew will see the entire lunar disk simultaneously, including the areas near the north and south poles.
On CBS's "Face Kennedy," Isaacman confirmed that the astronauts are prepared for the communication blackout.
🔗 The Guardian
nasa.gov
➡️ For the record: In the 60s and 70s, missions to the Moon carried Hasselblads with custom Zeiss optics. Back then, that was the absolute bleeding edge of technology.
Let's do the math:
• Mission cost: $4.1 billion.
• Photography kit for finding/documenting extraterrestrial civilizations: $5,000 — $7,000.
• Share of the budget: approximately 0.0001%.
The bottom line:
• Budget: Cosmic.
• Optics: "Weekend BBQ" tier.
• Narrative: "Trust the astronauts' eyes."
High-quality images of the Moon (and whatever is behind it) will surely remain the exclusive domain of automated probes like the LRO, where there is no "human factor" and, consequently, no unnecessary eyes.

“Our job here is to go out and try and unlock the secrets of the universe.”
“When you think about it, we got 2tn galaxies out there. Who knows how many star systems within each of it? I would say the odds that we will find something at some point to suggest that we are not alone are pretty high.”
At the moment of closest approach, at roughly 7:02 PM, Orion will be at a distance of 1,200 kilometers. From this distance, the crew will see the entire lunar disk simultaneously, including the areas near the north and south poles.

Fast forward 53 years, and onboard Artemis II are two Nikon D5 DSLRs (typically used to shoot weddings) and a mirrorless Nikon Z9, added to the equipment list at the last minute at the crew's request. It is being used for testing in high-radiation environments, as a modified version of the Z9 will become the basis for future lunar cameras (HULC) on the Artemis III mission — NASA has been sitting on contracts with Nikon for decades, so a Leica Noctilux or even top-tier Summilux prime lenses are out of the question.
The kit includes a "wide-angle" Nikkor 14-24mm f/2.8G ED for shooting inside the capsule (Orion's cabin volume is only 9 cubic meters for four people) and a standard Nikkor 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR zoom straight out of the nearest supermarket.
Specialists will understand what this means.
In short: At a long focal length from 1,200 km away, nobody is going to capture anything but noise with a zoom that "dark." Even considering the crop factor. Even if they were taught what ISO is.
Therefore, all hope rests on the "eyes," which are the "best lens."
Let's do the math:
• Mission cost: $4.1 billion.
• Photography kit for finding/documenting extraterrestrial civilizations: $5,000 — $7,000.
