CUET loves testing Direct & Indirect Speech, and once you know the rules, it’s easy to score full marks! ✅

Here’s how to convert sentences like a pro:

1️⃣ Identify the Difference 🎯

Direct Speech 🗣️: He said, "I am happy."
Indirect Speech 🔄: He said that he was happy.

2️⃣ Follow the Tense Shift Rule 🔄
Present → Past

👉 She says, "I love reading." → She said that she loved reading.
Past → Past Perfect
👉 He said, "I finished my work." → He said that he had finished his work.

3️⃣ Change Pronouns & Time Words 🔍

"I" → "He/She" (He said, "I am late." → He said that he was late.)
"Today" → "That day", "Yesterday" → "The previous day", "Tomorrow" → "The next day"

4️⃣ No "That" for Questions & Commands 🚫

Question: She asked, "Where are you?" → She asked where I was.
Command: He said, "Close the door." → He told me to close the door.

5️⃣ Practice with CUET-Style MCQs 📝

Most CUET questions involve picking the correct indirect speech option—so practice regularly!

💡 Pro Tip: If the reporting verb is in Present or Future Tense, don’t change the tense!
