We've been married for 8 years and have two children. We have been saving to buy land to build our own home, however, school fees, rent and other expenses have slowed our progress. Recently, I discovered that my husband had built his parents a house upcountry. I learnt about it when his sister posted pictures of the completed house in their family WhatsApp group, praising him for being a wonderful son. I was shocked because he had never mentioned the project to me. When I confronted him, he said he had used his personal savings and money from his side business. He also insisted that he did not need my permission to help them. I have never opposed him supporting his parents, but I feel betrayed that he could spend so much without consulting me when we are still renting. He says I am selfish and asks whether I would complain if he had built a house for my parents. Am I wrong to expect him to consult me before making major financial decisions?
